NY Giants GM Lays Down the Law

New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese has laid down the law and he's now attempting to move the team past last week's controversy.

ESPN's Ohm Youngmisuk is reporting that Reese has spoken with Kenny Phillips and Antrel Rolle regarding comments that the two players made about head coach Tom Coughlin last week. During a radio interview on WQAM out of Miami, the two teammates hinted that they'd rather play for a guy like Jets head coach Rex Ryan than Coughlin. Rolle stated that he was "not having fun" as a member of the Giants.

According to the ESPN story, Reese has told the outspoken Rolle to "say less" to the media from now on. The GM is quoted as saying "less is more with the media. Hey, you do more on the field. You leave more on the field. You do your things on the field. You let your plays do the talking ... and he said he was 200 percent in, and I believe him."

Reese also called out the New York players, saying "If we make a couple plays, if Antrel makes a play back there, if Kenny Phillips makes a play back there, we're not having this conversation." We're probably still playing and everybody's saying, 'Wow, Tom Coughlin's got a great formula.' That's how it goes. Whoever is winning has the best formula for that year."

In an unrelated but interesting note, Reese also stated that he would not rule out bringing back wide receiver Plaxico Burress once Burress is released from prison.

Reese has now made it very clear to the entire New York Giants roster that publicly badmouthing the team's head coach will not be tolerated. Players such as Rolle and Phillips can choose to get on board or get on out. Hopefully, this will be the end of the story. Besides, nobody on the New York defense has room to talk after the Philadelphia and Green Bay debacles.
