New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks rolled his ankle in the second quarter of last Sunday's Giants-Panthers contest. While it's been a problem throughout the week thus far, New York fans needn't worry.
"My ankle is doing good," Nicks said on Wednesday. "I rolled it in the second quarter of the game and it's a little sore so I'm going to stay off it for today. I'll be fine Sunday." Nicks also said that he may practice tomorrow (Thursday), depending on how he's feeling.
Nicks played through the pain against the Panthers, even though his ankle injury was visibly noticeable to those on the sidelines and in the huddle. "I did that (rolled the ankle) in the second quarter," Nicks explained. "It happened on the run play. I was blocking and it rolled up a little bit. Nothing too serious. It kind of swelled up a little bit. There was a little bit of pain on the outside."
As I hinted at yesterday, starting tight end Kevin Boss will miss Sunday's Manning Bowl due to a concussion sustained during the Panthers-Giants. This is no surprise to the Giants, who signed practice squad tight end Bear Pascoe to the roster on Tuesday.
Nicks showed his toughness by playing for over 30 minutes with a swollen ankle last Sunday. He's been banged up quite a bit in the past twelve months, but it's good to know he'll be taking the field against the Colts. Kevin Boss may make it back to the roster in week three, but he'll definitely be missed this Sunday night. Boss is both a good blocking tight end and a great play action target for QB Eli Manning. It will be interesting to see how the Giants compensate with Boss on the sidelines.
