The New York Giants Communications Office and the New York For Children website have announced that Giants All-Pro linebacker Keith Bulluck will receive the NYFC's "Nicholas Scoppetta Child Welfare Award." The award, being presented to Bulluck for his work with youths in the foster care system, will be given to the linebacker on September 21 at the NYFC 2010 Fall Gala.

Keith Bulluck, born in Suffern, New York, is a product of the foster care system. In 2003, he established the "Keith Bulluck Believe & Achieve Foundation." The foundation hosts events both in the Tennessee and New York which benefit youth in foster care.

The NYFC website quotes Bulluck as saying "Young people in foster care often assume they will be stuck with positions that don't have much upside after they leave the foster care system. It doesn't have to be that way. With a little focus, someone to bring you along and help you develop job skills, the possibilities are endless."

The black tie NYFC 2010 Fall Gala is open to the public. The event includes dinner, a live auction (proceeds going to NYFC) and entertainment. According to the NYFC website, last year's Fall Gala raised $1.5 million. For more information on attending the Fall Gala, call Jennifer Houston at (212) 867-1117 or click here to find and download the Gala response form.

Too often during the NFL regular season, press releases such as these are buried underneath injury reports and game previews. It's important that those who give back, like Keith Bulluck, are recognized by both the community and fans.
