New York Giants running back Brandon Jacobs claims that he never intended to toss his helmet into the stands during Sunday night's Colts-Giants contest. It appears the NFL does not care about the running back's original intentions.

The New York Giants have confirmed that Jacobs has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for the helmet toss incident that was widely discussed by NBC commentators during Sunday night's game. While the actual helmet toss was never shown during NBC's Sunday Night Football coverage, cameras did pick up the fan who caught Brandon Jacobs' helmet. New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin benched Brandon Jacobs during the second half of the game for "other reasons" than the helmet toss.

Jacobs was quoted as saying "I want to apologize one more time for accidentally tossing my helmet in the stands. It was something that happened because I was frustrated with the game, and I had no business tossing my helmet in the first place, and I am thankful that nobody was hurt. I talked to (general manager) Jerry (Reese) and coach (Tom) Coughlin yesterday. Both of them asked to speak with me, I didn't request a meeting with them. I have not demanded a trade and have no plans to demand a trade. The only demand I am making right now is of myself, to be the best player I can be and to help this team win."

Jacobs has been very vocal about his displeasure with being demoted to the Giants' number two running back behind Ahmad Bradshaw. One thing you can be sure of is tossing a helmet into the stands, accident or not, will certainly not impress Coughlin. It is not yet known if the Giants will further discipline Jacobs for his actions on Sunday night.
