Roughly one month after nearly losing a leg and his life, Chad Jones is going home.

ESPN and other sources are reporting that New York Giants rookie safety Chad Jones, who suffered numerous leg and foot injuries in a horrific late-June car accident, is heading back to his home of New Orleans to continue recovery. The accident nearly cost Jones his lower left leg/foot, which was saved after numerous hours of surgery.

The ESPN story quotes Ronnie Barnes, New York Giants vice president of medical services, as saying "Chad is in great spirits and excited to be getting out of the hospital. All has gone well thus far for Chad and he will return in probably six to eight weeks for another surgical procedure."

The accident, which occurred in the last week of June, left Jones with a "fractured leg and numerous arteries and nerves exposed." After numerous surgeries and many, many months of rehab, Jones is expected to walk and run again. He will return to the New York area within two months for more surgery.

Chad Jones will miss all of the 2010 NFL season. There is no further update on Chad Jones' NFL future, but it has been widely speculated that Jones will never play a down in the NFL. It has also been rumored that Jones, a two-sport star in college, may pursue a baseball career.
