New York Giants safety Kenny Phillips, who missed the 2009 NFL regular season due to a left knee injury, has sat out of practice all week due to an injury in the same knee. According to Phillips, his knee currently feels "great."
"They're just trying to be smart right now," Phillips said about the team's coaching staff keeping him off the practice field this week. "I think we're being conservative right now. I hope to play, looking forward to playing. I've been watching film and doing everything to prepare to play, so I'm looking forward to it. There's no setbacks or swelling or anything. The knee is great."
There's always worry when a player with a history of knee problems is nursing yet another knee injury. Phillips is calling this current setback "pretty much nothing." The safety is confident that he will be on the field this Sunday when the Giants face the Houston Texans. "It happened last week during the game, and I was able to finish the game and play well," Phillips stated. "Pretty much, I can do the same thing. I've played a little bit with the brace on, and I did a little bit today without it. I feel good either way, to tell you the truth, so you just have to play."
Phillips is currently listed as "questionable" for Sunday's game. You can guarantee that, considering the safety's history, Phillips will not start if head coach Tom Coughlin and the team's trainers believe there is any risk for a serious injury.
