NY Giants Season Ticket Holders Get a Break
New York Giants co-owner John Mara has acted as the public face and voice of the owners during the NFL labor dispute over the past couple of weeks. On Wednesday, Mara did the right thing for his team's devoted fans.
Mara, during a Wednesday appearance on New York sports radio station WFAN, stated that New York Giants season ticket holders do not have to pay any money for their 2011 football tickets until a new CBA is in place. According to the terms of the new payment system, fans have the option of paying for their tickets in full or opting out of payments. Fans that wish to opt out must do so by April 30.
A Fox Sports story also quotes Mara as saying that New York Giants employees currently "are on full salary and will remain there until further notice." This is excellent news for individuals that have completely zero say in the ongoing battle between the owners and the NFLPA.
Nothing other than a new CBA and football games being played is going to completely make things right between NFL teams and the league's loyal fans. With that said, angry fans that have been watching John Mara and other owners try to explain the current lockout shouldn't have to pay for game tickets that are, as of the typing of this sentence, essentially worthless.
Let's just hope those tickets aren't completely worthless come this September.
