NY Giants WR Hakeem Nicks Doubtful for Season Finale

The New York Giants have to win this Sunday in order to have any shot of making the playoffs. They'll likely be without a major offensive weapon.

Numerous news outlets throughout the New York area, including ESPN and the Wall Street Journal, are reporting that wide receiver Hakeem Nicks will sit out when the Giants face the Washington Redskins. Nicks is dealing with a broken toe and was not able to practice on Wednesday. When asked if Nicks would be available against the Redskins, head coach Tom Coughlin said "I doubt it."

The Giants have won two games with both Steve Smith and Hakeem Nicks sidelined during the 2010 regular season. Quarterback Eli Manning talked about those two games on Wednesday, saying "well, those two games we ran the ball, we protected the football, we played smart, the defense played well, so we know we can win in those games, we've just got to try - a couple of them we scored early - we've got to execute. That's what it comes down to. Can you execute? Can you have a great game plan where guys know what's going on, where to line up, run routes and play good football?"

Manning has thrown at least one interception in each of New York's previous four contests; he threw four in Green Bay last Sunday. Expecting this Giants offense to be mistake free without Smith or Nicks on the field is unrealistic. Big Blue is really going to have to earn a playoff berth this Sunday afternoon.
