New York Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks has not been 100 percent since the start of training camp. Things got a little worse for both Nicks and the Giants on Tuesday.
ESPN and numerous other sources in the New York area are reporting that Nicks hyperextended his right knee near the end of the Giants' team practice on Tuesday afternoon. Nicks crumbled to the ground after tweaking his knee, but was able to put some weight on the injured leg. He was eventually carted off to the locker room, and did not return to the field.
Nicks is scheduled to to undergo an MRI before the end of Tuesday night. The injured right knee will be examined more thoroughly on Wednesday. According to the ESPN story, Nicks' condition may not be revealed until sometime on Thursday.
New York Giants fans may remember that Domenik Hixon's season ending injury was first reported as a hyperextended knee. While first reports indicate that the Giants believe Nicks has only a sprained knee, this is only speculation. Regardless, the injury is yet another setback that will keep Nicks off the practice field. The best case scenario is that Nicks' injury is just a sprain, and he will be back on the football field before the team's first preseason game.
