New York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith missed Friday's practice due to a pectoral injury. It's looking more and more like the talented WR will sit out this Sunday's game against the Cowboys.
Several reports from NFL and New York Giants beat writers claim that Smith will sit this Sunday when the New York Giants host the Dallas Cowboys. Paul Schwartz of the New York Post Tweeted late Friday morning that "(Smith's) definitely not playing Sunday vs. the Cowboys." The Star-Ledger is reporting that Smith did not suffer a serious pectoral injury, but that he could still miss at least two starts.
Smith suffered what the Giants are calling a "strained pectoral muscle" during a Thursday team practice. He underwent tests later that day, the results of which are still not public. Even if Smith did not suffer a tear, he could still miss up to a month if the injury is a serious one.
Hakeem Nicks, currently leading the Giants in receptions, will not be alone in attempting to replace Smith. Mario Manningham has had much success against the Cowboys in the past. Big man Ramses Barden could be brought during red zone situations. Travis Beckum and Kevin Boss could also see an increase in targets.
More information regarding Smith's injury should be made public before late Friday afternoon.
