Jay Feely takes Steve Weatherford's place after Weatherford, NY Jets starting punter, falls ill. The NY Jets just may have given Feely the moment he may deserve. The Jets vs Bengals game was more than most expected.

How did Freely fair while starting punter for the NY Jets against the Cincinnati Bengals? Freely kicked, Bernard Scott took it 56 yards and was tackled by Wallace Wright. Not bad for a first-time punter, but why the hype? Read further as the Bengals may have thought they had nothing to worry about when it came to Jay Feely.

But who said that the Bengals were nervous? It's the first punt of Feely's NFL career. It was the beginning to quite an energetic NFL game. Here's some of the highlights.

Carson Palmer assisted on Laveranues touchdown as Bengal's Shayne Graham reached that score. It was 7 for Bengals. NY Jets player Shonn Greene grabbed 39 yards for a touchdown, Jay Feely makes that extra point. It was 7 even across the board. Jets created a groove as Mark Sanchez assisted Dustin Keller in his touchdown and again, Feely's extra point was good. It was NY Jets 14, Bengals 7.

NY Jets' Jay Feely was outstanding, read further.

Thomas Rush went the 9 yards to reach his touchdown as this is no surprise, Jay Feely scored the extra point, again. It was 21 to 7. Bengals came back with Cedric Benson's touchdown and Shayne Graham scores an extra point, second one of the game. It was 21 NY Jets, 14 Bengals.

But who steals the show? You bet it was Jay Feely. Feely makes a 20 yard field goal bringing the score to 24 to 14, Jets ahead as that is where it stayed.

The Jets and Bengals were strong in their game, pulling through recent obstacles that could have potentially diverted the minds of the players.

Technically the owner of the NY Jets, Woody Johnson, mourns his daughter. There cannot be any argument that the Jets had concern for one of their owner, Woody Johnson. As the Bengals mourned the recent loss of Chris Henry, one of their beloved team members.

Impressed with Feely's flexibility in his responsibilities of a NFL player, many Jets fans begin to follow the guy that stepped in and gave it his all. Jay Feely, a name that will be mentioned in games to come.

The attention paid to Feely in this game was absurd. It's hardly a stretch for a placekicker to assume punting duties. He was a total non factor; in fact, his punting average was quite lousy, just 31.4.
