Sit back and listen to some live music. Washington Square Park is always bustling with visitors, performers and plenty of food vendors. Take your most comfortable blanket and pick out the perfect spot on the lawn. Spend about five to ten dollars on food and drink for two at any number of vendors scattered throughout the park, then kick back and enjoy any number of live acts performing around the immense fountain. There is always something going on in this popular park, from musical acts to dance troupes. It's a great place to spend some time outdoors with your date and save some money at the same time.

Visit the Met. With a recommended donation you can pay what you want to gain entry into one of NYC's best and most renowned museums. Here you can impress your date by walking amongst some of the most beautiful and romantic pieces of art in the world. Once you're done with the museum, why not take a stroll through Central Park, as it sits directly behind the museum? Undoubtedly a place of romance, explore some of the great ponds and landmarks with your date and take in the scenery.

Take a free ferry ride and see the Statue of Liberty. The Staten Island Ferry runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week. A short ride across the Hudson River takes you right past the statue on its way to the port on Staten Island. You can hop right back on a returning ferry to take the short, approximately 25-minute ride back to the port on Manhattan. Free all the time and offering outdoor and top-deck seating, this is a fantastic way to see one of our greatest landmarks and take a refreshing cruise across the open water.

NYC is a great city, and you don't have to have a lot of money to enjoy it. There are plenty of free and inexpensive things to do if you do a little looking around. Some of the other more expensive museums, for example, have days that are free to the public. There are occasionally free live events and concerts around the city in parks and other venues, such as the Howl Festival in Tompkin's Square Park.
