Father's Day is nearly upon us and you probably haven't gotten anything for dear old dad yet. Well do yourself a favor and don't let dad's same-old/same-old define the day! Take him out and treat him like the dad he never takes credit for being. Here are three events in the five boroughs which can make dad happy and feel special; whether his special skills are eating and drinking, sports and movement, or parchment paper making!
Southern hospitality for Father's Day doesn't have to end when the last scraps of brunch make their way from the Sunday morning table. Southern Hospitably BBQ in Hell's Kitchen has a Father's Day evening which has something for that special man or dad in your life. beginning at 7pm on Sunday June 19, the Father's Day 2011 BBQ Beer & Bourbon is a hit. The Father's Day evening includes Memphis-style dry rubbed ribs, hand sliced brisket, and fried chicken. Down your food with Blue Moon, Maker's Mark, or any of several other drinks on the prix fixe menu. The full course of food, two sides, and your choice of beer or bourbon is only $34.95. Of course you're free to keep drinking as long as you and dad can handle it.

Randall's Island is one spot which you may never consider taking dear old dad. However on Father's Day you'd be wise to usher dad over to Randall's to see what's going on at Randall's Island Golf Center. With more than 25 acres of grounds, there are all manner of things to keep you occupied on Randall's Island. For less than fifteen bucks you can get a bucket of balls to whack at in one of their more than 80 driving range stalls. Or head on over to the batting cages and remind dad why his baseball ambitions were always so much more Shea than South Bronx.

If your dad is more about puttering around the house than swinging the baseball bat, head over to 3rd Ward at Morgan Avenue in Bushwick for the DIY Dad. Dad can take a furniture refinishing class and brush up on his furniture refinishing skills, a gardening and composting class if your dad's more about keeping the earth spinning, or even a papermaking by hand class if your dad wants to ditch the computer and etch his own renderings by hand on parchment he's made himself!
3rd Ward, 195 Morgan Ave, Brooklyn NY. 718.715.4961.
Whatever you do with dad this Father's Day make sure you tell him what he means to you and make sure he knows that you love him!
