NYC Liquid Lip Shine in Au Naturel: A Review

The Pen
While shopping at Target the other day for items for my home I couldn't leave without passing through the cosmetics aisle. I wanted to buy a cute shade of nude lipgloss, so when I spotted the NYC Liquid Lip Shine in Au Naturel, I decided to buy it because it was a rosy brown shade that I thought would be a flattering neutral for my carmel colored skin.

The Liquid Lip Shine only costs $1.82. It comes in a slim rectangular tube with grey accents and a black top. NYC claims the Liquid Lip Shine "gives your lips rich, dramatic color with moisturizing benefits. Perfect results are easy with the precision applicator."

The "precision applicator" is the same sponge-tipped applicator that like 95% of lip glosses now have, so that wasn't really worth bragging about.

But I did notice that in addition to a host of synthetic ingredients the NYC Liquid Lip Shine does contain moisturizing ingredients like sweet almond oil, aloe leaf extract, wheat germ and castor oils.

When I first tried the NYC gloss on, I noticed that it had a sweet vanilla smell that I liked. And I thought the Au Naturel shade was adorable.

Au Naturel is a couple of shades darker than my natural lip color, so when it first goes on it looks like a mocha brown shade. But once it's applied evenly Au Naturel begins to look a bit lighter and more of the pink undertones are revealed.

I noticed that there's a very fine silver shimmer in NYC's Au Naturel. It's hardly noticeable so it doesn't look gaudy and it didn't look ashy against my brown skin. I think it cools down the warm tones in the Liquid Lip Shine so that the brown color is toned down a bit, so the pink shade can stand out.

The NYC Liquid Lip Shine is a really creamy gloss, so it's not super shiny, I think the silver shimmer also helps to add some shine to the Au Naturel shade, because it reflects a lot of light. I also found that the shimmer helped to make my teeth look whiter. Some neutral lip colors can really make yellow stains in teeth stand out, but this one didn't.

I thought Au Naturel looked really good on me, it's an earthy pink shade that looked natural and pretty. NYC Liquid Lip Shine was very creamy but one coat didn't feel too heavy or sticky. It made my lips feel soft and moisturized.

In the End...

I really liked NYC's Liquid Lip Shine in Au Naturel. I think the pinky brown shade would look good on a ton of different skin tones, I give it 4.5 out of 5 stars.
