NYC Police Arrested 100 Mob Associates During a Predawn Raid
This is the Biggest Mafia Arrest in History
The mob associates were arrested on charges of extortion, murder and narcotics trafficking because of an ongoing investigation over the last few years. The arrests included several associates from five mafia families throughout the area that are well known for organized crime.
Several of the people arrested are charged with murders occurring back in the 1980s and 90s. Other charges against the mob associates were racketeering, loan sharking, extortion and gambling. Labor racketeering is also a problem in the construction and waterfront business. This is how the mafia makes a lot of their money.
Organized crime has been an ongoing problem for many years in the New York City and surrounding areas. The arrests came from unrelated indictments. Later today, authorities are expected to hold a news conference to give more details in the largest mob arrest in New York City. The undertaking of the arrests was lead by the F.B.I, United States attorney's office and other law enforcement agencies.
Federal, state and local authorities had expressed concern over the mob crime that was occurring in New York City and surrounding areas, so the arrests came at a time when it was most needed.
This mafia crime bust is a major hit to New York's five families. In 2008, eighty or more suspects were arrested on charges of organized crime. Leaders like John "Jackie the Nose" D'Amico and others from the Gambino family were the targets of these arrests at the time.
More news on the mafia arrests are expected later this morning. This is a huge breaking story because it is the largest organized crime arrest since the 1980s and 1990s.
