The Whitney Museum of American Art is located at the corner of 75th and Madison and focuses on 20th Century American Art. I has the world's largest of collection of work by Edward Hopper, who started his career by exhibiting at the Whitney Studio Club, the Whitney Precursor back in the 1920's. Whitney also boasts a a large collection of works by Reginals Marsh who also exhibited at the Whitney Studio Club. The Whitney Museum house the largest collection of works by Alexander Caldar which include his circus series and sculptures.

Other unique collections held by the Whitney Museum include:

- Alexander Caldar
- Charles Burchfield
- Georgia O'Keefe
- Marsden Hartley
- Louise Nevelson
- Agnes Martin
- Gaston Lachaise

These significant collections house in the amazing Whitney building is one of NYC "must sees" by everyone. Whitney also collaboartes with the Museum of Modern Art on the Andy Warhol Film Project and it is a host to performing events that are included in the price of admission.

Originally, the Whitney Museum was located on West 8th Street, then moved to West 54th Street and now it has eventually found a home in the current building, designed by Bauhaus trained Architect, Marcel Breuer. The magnificent Whitney Museum was completed in 1966 and at the time was seen as a stark contrast to the townhouses of New York's Upper East Side.

The building has subsequently won landmark status and now is seen as a natural and stately part of this classic New York area. The Whitney Musuem offers a vast range of educational programs for all ages which includes special promotions for young children and families. The Museums' opening hours are as follows:
