NYX: Best NYX Foundations for Honey Complexions

Malina Debrie
For years, I have been drawn to the products that are sold over the counter in major department stores such as Dillard's and Macy's for my cosmetics. I became intrigued with these lines during my teen years when being wooed to model and when modeling and teaching modeling for Barbizon.

I loved the look obtained when wearing the more expensive makeup and having a makeup artist work their exceptional talent on my face. I have always had a very highlighted skin tone. My complexion is more yellow than beige. The undertone to my complexion is a golden yellow so the colors of yellow, bronzes and deep gold are colors that I love. In addition, black and gold are my signature colors.

So when wearing makeup, I migrate to makeup that brings out the golden glow to my complexion. I must say it is hard to find the colors that really bring out the richness in my skin tone in the over the counter products like Maybelline or other products that seem to be broadcasted daily across the airway. The ones you see Beyonce and Queen Latifah and other celebrities wear just simply do not do it for me in one shade. I have yet to find a single color in these products that matches my skin tone.

Most African Americans cannot just pick up a bottle of these and off they go with a gorgeous complexion. We generally find that if we do not do a great job of blending, there are those tell tale lines of obvious 'where the makeup ends and your skin tone begins.' And quite often, if you are in a hurry, you simply forget to blend the colors well. Then you end up with most people who get close enough looking at your face and it's obvious that they are looking at the bad makeup blending job.

But, I have discovered that there is a product out there that can save you a few dollars and does an exceptional job in working well with the many unique tones of the African American female complexion. So many of us have these differing complexions that defy the norm. We have to mix and match until we get just the right combination. Generally it takes a couple if not three or four bottles before we have the perfect match.

NYX is one of those products that can be easy on the purse while you might even find that one perfect shade that works well with your complexion. Don;t get your hopes up, but, you might have the perfect complexion that defies the norm when using NYX. Their differing blends seem to work well with many shades and I have yet to find that the tone or blend I use changes from golden to red.

Combining the blend of Caramel and Beige works extremely well for me. When blending these two shades together, I obtain the perfect match for my complexion. then using the beige to highlight the area underneath my eyes adds that little amount amount of highlight that makes it perfect and intensifies the amount of white in my eyes.

NYX is a lightweight formula that does not cause the person with adult prone acne skin to have a breakout. I have the problem of adult acne. Most dermatologist will tell you acne is definitely not a teen issue. It causes problems for individuals well pass the teen years. NYX is one of the very sensitive makeups that blends well, is light on the face and does not feel heavy or oily. It also leaves your face feeling velvety soft.

At $13 a bottle, I can afford to purchase the two that work well with my skin tone and the minimal high lightener to the product to obtain the perfect color for my tone. And with the minimal amount required, I have to restock every two months. My previous makeup cost well over $30 per bottle and I still had to add a little light beige to obtain the perfect tone.

Great article. Still no electricity in my office so I can only tap into the computer when everything else is off on the other side of the house which has electricity. Sorry I am behind. It's also hard to type in the dark. I'm not very good at it. Ha!
