Oakland Housing Authority Section 8: Waiting List Applications For Assistance Being Accepted Now Thru Sat., Jan 29, 2011
Writer Angela Woodall of the Oakland Tribune reports here that only about 10,000 families out of as many as 100,000 potential applicants will likely make it on the waiting list and eventuallly find themselves getting assistance with housing. However, it apparently doesn't matter when you apply. Those who are selected to be placed on the wait list for housing help in Oakland will be chosen in a special lottery.
Those selected to be placed on the list will be placed due to number of criteria met, as opposed to who applied first or had the latest postmark on their application. This gives everyone a fair shake within the five-day window.
