Oakland Raiders (NFL): Top 10 Quaterbacks in Oakland Raiders History

Since their upstart days as part of the AFL, the Oakland Raiders have been one of Pro Football's most colorful and successful franchises. Over the years, the bad boys of the NFL have also been led by some pretty impressive (as well as some lackluster) signal callers. Here then are the top 10 quarterbacks in Oakland Raider history.

Ken Stabler (1970-1979)

Ken Stabler epitomized the Raider's bad boy image of the 70's. The hard partying quarterback, with the on the field swagger, complied a 69-26-1 record as an Oakland starter in the regular season, and a 7-6 record in the post season, winning Super Bowl XI along the way. Stabler, a four time Pro Bowler, and the 1974 NFL Offense Player of the Year, threw for 19,078 yards and 194 touchdowns in his tenure for the team. Ken also led the NFL in touchdown passes in 1974 and 1976.

Jim Plunkett (1979-1986)

After a mediocre career with the New England Patriots, Plunkett would find NFL success in Oakland, leading the Raiders to Super Bowl wins in the 1980 and 1983 seasons. In all, Plunkett would record an 8-2 post season record, and a 38-19 regular season record for the team as a starter. Voted the MVP of the 1980 Super Bowl, Plunkett would throw for 12,665 yards and 80 touchdowns during his Raider career.

Daryle Lamonica (1967-1974)

A deep throwing passer from Notre Dame, Daryle Lamonica found AFL and NFL success as the starting quarterback for the Raiders. Lamonica enjoyed an amazing 66-16-6 regular season record for the team, and a 4-5 post season record. A four time Pro Bowler for the Raiders, Lamonica twice threw for over 30 touchdowns in a season (30 in 1967 and 34 in 1969), and enjoyed a 401 yard passing day against the Jets in the 1968 AFC Conference Championship.

Rich Gannon (1999-2004)

Gannon's Raider career lasted just 6 seasons, yet the Oakland signal caller was selected to four Pro Bowls in that span of time, and was voted the NFL Offensive Player of the Year in 2000 and 2002. In 2002, Gannon set most of the Raider's regular season passing marks, completing 418 out of 618 passes for 4,689 yards and 26 touchdowns. In all, Rich posted 45 regular season victories in 74 games, and threw for 17,585 yards and 114 Tds for the team. Gannon led Oakland to the 2002 Super Bowl, and had 23 games in which he threw for over 300 yards as a Raider.

Tom Flores (1960-1966)

Probably remembered more for being a Raider head coach than quarterback, Flores nevertheless enjoyed a good stint as the Raiders QB in the early 60's. Tom twice threw for over 20 touchdowns in a season, finishing his career in Oakland with a 30-30-3 record, and 11,635 yards passing. Flores enjoyed his best game as a Raider in 1963, when he threw for 407 yards and 6 touchdowns against the Oilers.

Jeff Hostetler (1993-1996)

After helping the New York Giants to a Super Bowl title, Hostetler enjoyed a degree of success as a Raider QB. Elected to the Pro Bowl in 1994, Jeff would win 33 out of 55 starts for the Raiders. In 1993, he would throw for 424 yards in a game against the Chargers.

Marc Wilson (1980-1987)

Though he had less than spectacular passing numbers for the team, Marc Wilson nevertheless compiled a 31-19 record as an Oakland starter. The former first round draft pick out of BYU would throw for 14,391 yards and 86 touchdowns as a Raider quarterback.

Jay Schroeder (1988-1992)

Obtained from Washington for the 1988 season, Schroeder was 32-25 as a Raider starter.

The former UCLA quarterback threw for 10,276 yards and 66 Tds for Oakland, including a 354 yard passing day against Seattle in 1988.

George Blanda (1967-1975)

Better known as a kicker in Oakland, George Blanda was an effective backup quarterback for the Raiders in the late 60's and early 70's. In his one starting assignment with the Raiders, George threw for 295 yards and 4 touchdowns against the Broncos in 1968. Overall, Blanda threw for 1,835 yards and 23 touchdowns for the Raiders, finishing up some memorable games for Lamonica along the way.

Steve Beuerlein (1988-1989)

Beurlein got his career start in Oakland, leading the team to 8 wins in 15 starts. Though he would go on to enjoy greater success for other teams, Beuerlein first +300 yards passing game came in Oakland, when he threw for 375 yards against the Rams in 1988.
