Oaxaca Mexico landslide may have killed over 1000 people. Heavy rains are to blame for the landslide in Oaxaca Mexico. The Governor of Oaxaca Mexico says up to 1000 people could be dead. Here is what the Governor Ulises Ruiz said, "There could be between five hundred, six hundred maybe one thousand dead. We still haven't reached the town. We're sending machinery, army personnel, police, ambulances and rescue workers."

Oaxaca Mexico is in a town called Santa Maria Tlahuitoltepec. It's assumed that over four hundred homes are buried because of the landslide. The mudslide occurred due to heavy rain that fell early Tuesday morning causing the soil to loosen and collapse on homes below. There are presumed to have been many people still in their homes when the mudslide occurred.

The bad weather in Oaxaca Mexico is preventing some rescue workers from entering the disaster site. With the militaries help, rescue should be able to get in soon and start looking for people.

This is a landslide is a disaster area and many are worried about their friends and family who may have been killed or still trapped during the landslide. This landslide has said to have started around 4 am this morning when many people were still sleeping.

The population in Oaxaca Mexico is around 3,000,000 and is one of the largest states in Mexico as far as population. The town where the mudslide occurred has around ten thousand residents of which eight thousand of the residents have been affected by the landslide.

Ulises Ruiz stated, "We haven't reached the location yet. There has been lots of rain, rivers have over flowed, and we're having a hard time reaching the area because there are landslides on the roads."

This is one of the worst rainy seasons Mexico has seen and is the reason people have been forced from their homes. It's also the reason for the mudslide in Oaxaca Mexico.
