Obama

amanda
The first time I voted,
I voted Obama,
And sported that little white sticker,
Proudly on my chest all day long.

The day I voted for Obama,
My mother pulled me aside,
Tears in her eyes,
And told me the first time she voted,
It was for Kennedy.
And she was proud of the change,
I would soon make in the world.

The first time I voted,
I thought about every promise,
Barack Hussein Obama,
Had made to me,
And my fellow Americans,
And knew, he was not a man,
Who would not soon let me down.

When Obama says he is of the party,
Of Kennedy, and Roosevelt,
And Clinton,
I smile, knowing someday,
His name will be the one used with pride.
The one my children do projects on in school,
The name we all hold in such high esteem.

The day I voted for Obama,
I got a call, from my friend in Iraq,
Thanking me for taking a stand,
Doing something big for the world.
And I thanked him,
Because he does the same for me.

The day I voted for Obama,
I voted for a black man,
A man who's middle name is Hussein,
Who can recite the first page of the Quran.
A man who lived in Indonesia for four years,
And a man who is unlike any other president,
We have ever had.

The day I voted for Barack Obama,
I voted for change,
I voted for a black man,
I voted for strength, and unity, and pride.
And color, gender, and religion,
Had no impact whatsoever on my choice,
My mother and I agreed on something,
For the first and last time in our lives,
And a great man,
Came one step closer,
To leading my country.

That is why I voted for Barack Obama.
