Obama Accused of "Favoritism" for Daughters' Vaccinations

David Van Edema
Good news for you Obama supporters; while President Barack Obama has been the target of a lot of my criticisms lately, for once, I'm going to go easy on him... this time.

President Obama's young daughters, Malia and Sasha, have received their vaccinations for the H1N1 virus last week, commonly known as the "swine flu". The common logic says that as children of the president, it's generally assumed that these children would be first in line to get the shot. The White House has denied this is the case, and I have no reason to believe otherwise. Even conservative talk show hosts like Sean Hannity have recently pointed out the fact that the vaccinations have been so short in supply, that even Obama's daughters haven't received them yet.

However, according to the story, there have been no vaccine shortages in the Washingon Schools. It is entirely possible that the Obamas may have waited for the other school children to receive their vaccinations first before getting their own daughters their shots.

Unfortunately, it looks like the girls' vaccinations have become a subject of controversy. People are complaining that the girls have received "preferential treatment" due to their status as the President's daughters.

"You definitely think that there's some favoritism going on." complained Vernon Stanely. Stanely stood in the snow for hours in the snow in Salt Lake City, waiting to get his 6-year old granddaughter.

Walter Ponfick of New Braunfels, Texas, posted on the Fox News Blog that "We have two very compromised special needs children in our home, but can't find any vaccine. Makes me think just the important population is able to be taken care of (sic)."

Mr. Ponfick's granddaughter was later able to receive the vaccination in San Antonio.

My personal view of this falls pretty much in line with Dr. Mark Dworkin's, that "If his (Obama's) children get sick with a high fever, that's very distracting for any parent, and we all want his attention focused on the issues before him."

He also stated that if his children were to get the flu, President Obama could catch it as well.

"That's a guy I don't want to see sick" he continued.

Ok, granted, I don't want Obama focusing too much on his issues, especially since he's turning our economy upside-down, but I really don't want the guy, or his family, getting seriously ill either.

Look gang, those who have read my past articles on Obama know that I'm no supporter of his. I can't think of any of his policies that I have even come close to agreeing with him on. I think his administration is the biggest threat to our country in years, but this time, I'm going to give him a break.

The President's kids are going to get some form of preferential treatment in matters like this. That's just the nature of the beast. It doesn't matter if you like whoever is sitting in the Oval Office or not, that's just the way it goes. It's one of the perks of being the President's kids.

What really stands out is that critics upset by the "preferential treatment" allude to the belief that "no one is better than anyone else", or "all must be treated equally".

In other words, they sound like liberals.

I have no real proof, but my gut tells me that in many cases, this would be true. Right from the beginning of his presidency, I have always suspected that eventually, Obama was going to be receiving a harder time from his supporters than from his critics as his term went on, stemming from a combination of him not just being unable to achieve what he promised them, but also from the liberals' own radical beliefs that not only are they "owed" everything by the government, but that the "common people" must come before the wealthy or powerful. In their eyes, Obama broke that code because as president, he "put his family before the people"; now he is receiving flak for it.

Granted, I'm sure a lot of this criticism is also coming from conservatives, but then again, looniness isn't unique to liberals. Trust me; I've seen plenty of loony conservatives in my life as well.

There are a lot of real issues that Obama is doing politically that deserve far more attention than when he got his daughters their flu shots. Our economy is in trouble, we have two wars going on, and our health care, among other things, is in real danger of being nationalized, just to name a few.

Let's concentrate on picking on Obama for those, and leave his family business out of it.
