Obama Butts Heads with Republicans. A Country Hick's Point of View

They Really Get My Goat

Sherry Tomfeld
I watched the health care reform "summit" today. All of it. It was too cold to be outside and I wanted to watch and hear for myself and not rely on the "news" to tell me how it went. I saw Obama in a light I was disappointed in. He was yet again arrogant, disrespectful and rude to the republicans who showed up. And the democrats were non-bending and dismissive. The republicans? Well, I think they already knew that they were showing up past chore time and nothing was left on the table for them. Rather like the piglet sucking hind teat.

As a rural Iowa woman I shook my head in disgust and used a few terms not usually seen in print. On the homestead, we have livestock to take care of. The vet does not get called every whip stitch. Who can afford that? Guess what Washington? WE don't go to the doctor every whip stitch either. We have insurance. We have been to the doctor maybe 5 times in 5 years. 2 were for injuries from the job.

I understand people that lose their jobs and insurance need help. I understand that when someone gets a horrible illness..they need to be covered..period. But I do not understand using the ER as a doctor. I do not understand why Congress and Obama are not working on jobs and the economy before tackling something as huge and expensive as health care reform. I do not understand why a President and the Congress would go directly against the wishes of the people of the U.S.

I have 2 goats that butt heads all day long. It never changes anything. They'll quit in the evening and be right back at it first thing in the morning. I have a hog that won't quit eating. She'll stay at the trough until she drops. I have a cow that thwarts herself as Queen and all others must back away when she passes. I also have chickens. They scratch the dirt and are grateful for any food that they get. They are modest in their wants as far as farm animals go. They still manage to stay positive. I think Americans are like the chickens.

The chicken and duck are willing to clean up poop for a warm resting place in the cow shed. The dog will let the cat lick her head in a spot she can't reach herself. The goat leaves the hay stems for the cows and the cows allow the goats to eat the weeds. Maybe Obama and the Congress can come to our homestead to see how working together in a RESPONSIBLE way can reap rewards for all.

It's an embarrassment for us all. I think insurance reform and adding incentives for family practitioners, etc. with scholarships and grants would do plenty to help ease the burden for many of us. As far as being arrogant, that's been a trend with recent presidents in their words, actions, facial expressions and posture. Maybe it is the new thing, like how being snarky is popular now.

Great article. Simplicity is what appeals to the American people. Unfortunately, Washington doesn't realize what the people who elected them want. Hopefully, they will find out in November. Obama's arrogant remarks to Senator McCain "the election is over" (he did not say "and I won" but that was what he meant. Another arrogant remark was when he said "I am the president" referring to his right to speak longer than anyone else made me like him even less -- if that is possible.

I hope they come visit soon. I liked your style with this one.

I watched it too and thought the president made himself look bad. His remark to McCain about not campaigning anymore was pure arrogance. I wasn't overly impressed with either group but it was clear from beginning to end that the dems didn't intend to take any ideas into consideration that weren't already on the table. How sad for the entire country and especially for seniors who will suffer greatly under the health care plan as proposed.

They are a lot of people who don't have health insurance or a regular physician... they simply cannot afford to get sick or see the doctor once a year. It is a sad reality for many...

It is sad to watch Obama learn the hard way that he is not the pied piper he thought he would be he has been rude and arrogant way too many times and it isn't a wonder that his favor is dying quickly.
