Obama Can Call Me "Sweetie" Any Day

Victim-hood Run Amuck

Amanda Keller
Obama has suffered from the Rev. Wright fallout among white, blue-collar males, based on a questionable association. Obama himself said this issue was a valid consideration. Score one for Hillary. But a single sector of the Democrats turning against Obama does not take him out, far from it. He is still the front-runner and time is a-ticking on Hillary's political clock. Remember, nothing makes a woman more desperate than a ticking clock, oops, that might sound sexist? Then again, I'm a woman and I can say things like that, sort of like how African-Americans can say the "n" word and not be racist. Double standards can be handy sometimes.

However, I digress, so Obama addresses some female reporter as "sweetie" and all hell breaks loose. Judging from the outrage you'd think Obama had fondled the woman followed by a smack on the behind, ala Bill Clinton. But where were these outraged feminists then? "Sweetie"? I am sorry, there is nothing wrong with saying that. I listened to the clip multiple times and never heard a condescending tone, it was clearly a throw-away term of endearment meant to "sweeten" the fact that the question will not be answered. Any woman who finds Obama's use of "sweetie" offensive is either sadly insecure or trafficking in false victim-hood to cause Obama harm. This is no way to support Hillary. It's cheap and easy, not exactly methods worthy of respect.

What ever happened to the saying, "sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me"? From what I understand the female reporter in question was not offended by the term in question but more ticked by the fact Obama did not answer her question. That makes sense but still, if Obama blew off a male reporter no story would exist. The fact that Obama called the woman and apologized first, for not answering her question and second, for calling her "sweetie" is a pathetic sign of how miserably the feminist movement has failed. This type of kid glove treatment is the sure sign that women are too fragile to take a hit. And the sexist finger continues to point.

Hillary supporters are now threatening trouble from the vast numbers of feminists, predicting an ugly scene if their girl Hillary is not given what she wants; more tactics of an un-evolved desperate movement. Will the Democrat's party be swayed by these threats? Doubtful, only because the feminists were too late to the hostage taking game. Al Sharpton already painted an ugly racial display at the convention if Obama is dissed; both brands of browbeating unnecessary. The Democrats have two dream candidates, a smart, tough woman and a good-looking, well-spoken, bi-racial, youthful man. On paper, either should be a slam-dunk for the Democrats. Heck, with the negatives of the Republican party at an all time high, running the Democrat's donkey mascot should be able to win the presidency yet polls are not screaming landslide for the Dem's. Some polls even show McCain winning no matter which Democrat is the nominee. How could this be?

The old, cliche, hackneyed, impotent crutches of racism and sexism may very well rob both candidates of their victory. The problem with both of these movements is that neither has actually moved. Civil rights and women's rights groups are no longer movements, they are stagments. Each were valid causes at their conception but the gains of each did not foster mindsets of strength, self-reliance or earned status. Ironically each group has kept the causes in bondage, playing the victim card both to the point that each card is now simply the joker that no longer trumps the ace of strength. Obama began as the candidate that was above race yet now race is what defines him. This is not Obama's doing, rather the dinosaurs of thought he must drag in his bag of constituents that are to blame. The same can be said of Hillary. She began her campaign claiming to be as tough if not tougher than the boys, as smart if not smarter than the boys, as ready if not more ready than the boys yet it's the girls who define her. These girls who cry mistreatment of the only girl in the race are Hillary's biggest threat. As a woman, I am mortified by the unfounded cries of "not fair". Sweeties, Hillary is running for President of the United States, not Miss America. If these feminists had an ounce of intelligence they'd be telling all those beating on Hillary to bring it on. All Americans want a person as president who can take the hardest of punches without a flinch not a weak sister or a man shackled by people of his past.

I want a president I can criticize and not be chastised as being unfair. Let me tell you all a little secret, as long as white men can be mocked and criticized and demonized without shame befalling the carper, white men will remain in the drivers seat. It's an unsaid truth, those who can take it without crying foul are the ones we all subconsciously want to be in charge. Can Obama shake off victim-hood? Can Hillary slap down victim-hood? Time will tell. The only thing that is certain is that if McCain emerges victorious, he has the un-evolved racket of victim-hood to thank.
