Obama Campaigns as Chicago Murder Rate Soars

Almost as Many Killed in Obama's Hometown as in Iraq

Zane WaltZ
A recent article found on chicagotribune.com and written by Angela Rozas detailed an astonishing murder rate that is occurring under Barack Obama's Senate leadership, in his hometown of Chicago. "Shootings also rose, a fact Weis said was due in part to gang conflicts in two districts that resulted in 19 shootings on just one Friday night in April," stated the article, quoting Police Supt. Jody Weis. In April there were an astounding forty-seven murders.

During the first four months of 2008, 134 murders were committed in Chicago. In comparison, according to icasualties.com, a total of 160 Americans were killed in all of Iraq during the same period.

Barack Obama is running a campaign based upon the need for change, and there is nowhere in our country that needs change more than the area he already represents as a current Untied States Senator. The murder rate in Chicago is consistently one of the highest in the nation.

Attorney Jobs may be created.

According to the chicagotribune.com article, "Some units have already been taking to the streets on weekends in battle dress..." It is interesting that armed, militia style police officers are now patrolling Chicago, not unlike the soldiers that Obama so badly wants to bring home who are patrolling Baghdad half a world away.

Obama may be correct that the soldiers in Baghdad should be home. If that happens, it might be wise to move them into Chicago to take the city back from the gangs who are killing almost as many Americans as the war in Iraq.

Why is no one questioning the lack of results that Obama has achieved in his own district? While he makes television appearances, citizens of his home city fill the streets every night armed to the teeth and have Wild West style shoot-outs. Obama has criticized Bush for the results in Iraq and rightly so. Should Obama then be held to the same standard in Chicago?

Like all great politicians -- and yes, he has risen to that status -- Obama emphasizes the positive and avoids the negative. His mantra of change sounds great. It might be wise of his constituents to consider that, if he does not win the Presidency, they might want to change Senators and find someone who can produce results by lowering the murder rate in Chicago.

Barack may be the right man, at the right time, to lead our country. I just hope if he is elected, that the results from his Presidency will be in line with his rhetoric. At this point, there may be questions as to whether he has accomplished that so far.

Perhaps things would be worse in Chicago without Obama as a Senator. On the other hand, perhaps things would be worse in Iraq without Bush as President. Then again...

This was a Zane Waltz opinion.

JB and the Thinker are spot on. 'a real thinker' - Iraq being a war zone is not the point and I'm not sure what (if indeed you have one) your point is. The article is trying to brainwash people that Chicago is more dangerous than Iraq and it's not o.n

Chicago is auctually been at its lowest murder rates in years. 2008 there was a short spike but not much if you compare it to the rates in the early 90s and late 80s.2003 to 2007 had some of the lowest rates in 40 years, look it up. Of course it is still extremly high compared to new york and los angelos, but those cities have had dramatically declining crime rates in the past 15 years as well.

    Hey Don,
You should put down your civics book, and pick up a Bible. That's where our real rules originate. As evidenced by his preferred associations, Barry has been an exceptional student in the classrooms of the Jeremiah Wright, William Ayers, et al; blasphemers from the "underworld"!
But being a liberal, your ego forces you to reject the reality of the existence of the real Commander in Chief. The Lord Jesus Christ!

134 murders in a city of Chicago which has about 3 million people (almost 10 million in the metropolitan area). 160 out of about 150,000 troops. I like my odds in Chicago.

Yes, but Iraq is a nation at war. Chicago, along with the rest of the US is not. Yet we continue to have approximately 14000 murders per year in the US, largely in democratic stronghold cities.

Zane, just read your article. Your comparison of Obama and Bush makes no sense. Obama is not Chicago's "commander and chief," he does not hold an executive position in Chicago's local political system. He is a "representative" at the Federal level, and while his interests certainly do pertain to Chicago, his home town, he does not "call the shots" there. The mayor does; the police chief does; the aldermen do. It is not Obama's job to micromanage Chicago; it is his job to represent Chicago and (by the way) a good portion of Illinois (not just Chicago) at the Federal level. Did you pass 8th grade civics? You should know this. President Bush, on the other hand, should be held to a higher standard because he IS COMMANDER AND CHIEF of the U.S. armed forces, and decides policy in Iraq.

Pick up a civics book and get your facts straight.

    Um... how many Iraqis?
