Obama Chooses Wrong Shade of Lipstick

Loose Lips Get Chapped

Amanda Keller
Anyone who has listened to the news in the last week has heard Sarah Palin's clever quote from the Republican Convention noting the only difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull being lipstick. Though Palin's entire speech was a winner, this particular ad lib she threw in was a gem, masterfully aligning herself with all mothers who have ever cheered their children on in a sporting event. This lipstick comment resonated strongly and made the very word "lipstick" an immediate subconscious recall of Palin herself.

So, Obama makes a speech which, on its face was to call McCain's policies more of the same. That is fine. That is exactly what he should do as the Democrat's nominee however, Obama delivers this message with a clear and obvious subtext to his well-chosen words. Instead of sticking to the issues Obama attempts a veiled insult on his greatest threat, Sarah Barracuda Pit bull with Lipstick Palin. He accuses McCain of putting lipstick...(the word hangs in the air as the crowd tunes into the insinuation, Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin, Sarah Palin)...on a pig, but it is still a pig. A slip of the lip? An innocent turn of phrase? Obama, you can fool some left wing loons some of the time but you can not fool all of the people all of the time. This comment was an attempt at belittling Sarah Palin on the level of schoolyard antics. His whole delivery, the crowds' reaction, the smirk on the final word "pig" was comical. The funniest thing about the entire incident, and I mean funny-strange, not funny-ha-ha, was that Obama believed this petty comment would go unanswered. Obama, hello? We're currently armpit deep, thoroughly entrenched, nearly suffocated in the land of politically correct, a land your brand of mindset bestowed upon us all and now you too must live with. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Enjoy!

Does discourse over Lipstick Gate further the publics ability to choose the best president? No, except that it does highlight how out of sync Obama truly is with where the American people are in this place and time. We do want change. And lipstick may be at the heart of this change. Obama already is treading on thin ice with women who had their hearts broken when he robbed Hillary of the nomination. I am sure many a Hillary supporter thinks back to John Kerry when Hillary could have pulled an Obama and thrown her hat in the ring then when she was the brand with buzz. Hillary, however, chose to honor tradition, to allow a person who had tenure to have his go first. She rightly decided to pay her dues as a Senator hence earning her nomination by way of substantive work not celebrity status. Alas, the type of Democrats who now run the show have no time for tenure or tradition this go 'round. Out with the old, in with the new, baby! Enter stage left, Obama as they give Hillary the big hook. And adding insult to injury, the Democrats allow Obama to bypass Hillary all together for the V.P. slot. Barack and Howard, hell hath no fury, boys! Lipstick I believe will be Obama's undoing not because he made a coy remark subliminally relating to Sarah Palin but because his own running mate doesn't wear any.

The McCain camp is right to pounce on Obama's sophomoric snipe. No more passes for the gentleman from Illinois. And from the looks of his last two appearances, the stress is getting to Obama. He's aged 10 years in the last two weeks. If Obama is rattled by a little old guy with crippled arms and some hockey mom from Alaska, imagine how he will face Al Qaeda or Hamas or even Putin? Calgon, take him away!

Obama's pig remark was downright "boarish" (forgive the pun!) How come liberals can say whatever they want and have any limp apology accepted, but when conservatives make one blunder, they're investigated, castrated, tarred and feathered and sometimes forced to step down from their positions?!!

Great piece! It's interesting how Obama is focusing more of his negative attacks on a vice presidential candidate than he is on his actual opponent. I think it shows exactly how frightened he and the rest of the libs truly are when they're dishing out such baseless, vicious, hateful attacks against the BOTTOM HALF of the opposing party's ticket. Excellent work, Amanda! Keep it up! I look forward to reading more from you!

If Obama had said the same quote prior to Sarah Palin's speech then it would have no extra connotation. Obama himself stands by the fact that words matter. Employing that particular quote at this particular time had a cheap shot connection to Sarah Palin's lipstick quote. The crowd certainly reacted to this comment as such. I do not believe Obama is sexist, I think he was attempting a political shot that was sly but backfired.

Well, the facts don't bear this out. McCain used the same quote to describe a Democratic policy, calling it putting lipstick on a pig. Obama, responding to a McCain policy used the same term. How is that sexist and aimed at Palin? It's not. It's two candidates trading barbs. Either you agree with McCain's policies or you agree with Obama's - the rest is just participating in the theatre of defamation that is American journalism and internet blogging lately.
