Because the viewpoints of the world aren't directly impacting on the election vote process the U.S. voters aren't particularly concerned about what the world thinks of their process, hence, to the ones engaged in that process the importance of those votes enormously outweighs any significance of world view correcting. [CL3] Were it possible for the U.S. to be viewed as leading the world in the frugal use of its resources, would you say it was likely the politicians would be leading the charge?
What you believe about how the process is going is much of what you carry in your conscience about the people who are up there on the platform. If you think that they conduct the election process fairly, that they are well represented, honest and thorough about the issues, isn't your tendency to view the person's campaign in that same light? Whereas if you find some faults with the disclosure or depth of what the candidate is saying, then isn't your tendency to wonder at their overall truthfulness? Is it possible that Barack Obama [CL4] is finding himself being chased by this set of media ghosts, spirits, giving McCain [CL5] and Clinton [CL6] a lot of breathing room when it comes to their own forthrightness?
Is it possible that we who vote in the U.S. are being manipulated at levels so high that we aren't even consciously aware of it? Wouldn't it be a darkly comedic hoot if the conspiracy theorists about control and the election process in the U.S. turned out to be correct? We might not, however, be laughing, as if that were true then the process would be out of our hands, and our votes, and the process, would be totally out of any resemblance of representative democracy; does such make you uneasy?
One lesson that John McCain teaches us in his path to the votes of November is that his integrity wouldn't allow him to participate in such a ruse. After knowing the quality of integrity in his heroic life, we tend to agree with him. Is the lesson which Hillary Clinton teaches more subtle? She has weathered many a storm, survived many a controversy, and yet she still stands- as one lady put it "she hangs in there." Will such a type of steadfastness bring voters to her side? Barack Obama is weathering an onslaught of accusations which have dark sides to them, it is an inescapable fact of his campaign that his ideas and issue resolutions for America aren't getting air time, the media has fixated on his past associations, and would you agree that Obama is being hit with a media basting of guilt by association? What do you think the outcome of such will be?

Post a CommentThe law of large numbers makes it much easier to predict how a population will behave than it is to predict how an individual will. Having said that, 'easier' does not imply 'easy.' In addition, these days there are so many ways for the 'dirty laundry' to be outed on the Web that campaigns have a really tough time to manage and spin what comes out, let alone maneuver the media and the public in some grand plan. Of all the things our country wastes (and 'conspicuous consumption' may almost be called a national sport here), I'd hardly count campaign expenses as a prime example. Your piece does however raise interesting questions.
What would the outcome be?.... He'll develop a skin as thick as that cute dude in the photo you included! ;o) Thanks for a good read, Doc.
