Obama Email Smear Campaign

Let the Smear Campaigning Begin!

Storm
With every political campaign there is that moment when the gloves come off and things start getting really nasty. Those that are actually outside of the active political party, resort to using propaganda, gossip, and innuendo to sway the vote. Why should this campaign be any different, especially since for the first time in history a black man may be president?

Recently I received an email that was particularly offensive to me and it was definitely meant to hurt Obama. The chain email was basically regurgitating the old "information" that was being passed around last year. It states that Obama is basically suspect for having extremist Jihadist affiliations.

This one has a new twist, at least new to me. The email states that Obama's mother is an aetheist. Now I have to say that this one irks me. It is so obvious that the mindset of this particular barb comes from the Christian right. Naturally, to them anyone that isn't Christian and conservative is a bad person.

What concerns me is that everybody that has electricity or a cell phone has access to the Internet; even my 95-year-old grandma has Internet. The Internet plays an important part in this upcoming election, more so than at any other time in history. While the media has a certain code of ethics to tell the truth, those that spam you with forwarded emails can make up anything and call it the truth.

This really plays upon the public's fear of 911 and possibly worse happening again. Americans want to feel safe and the right it playing to the common man and woman's fears. I personally feel that the public is now smarter and more informed more than any other time in history. While it may set them back for a moment and they may consider the claims of this email to be true, I truly believe that the truth will be evident and this nonsense will be ignored just like every other tabloid like claim.

As we speak this nasty email could be making news and Obama will of course have to do damage control and refute these outrageous claims once again, but in the end the truth will bear itself out. I do believe the country is tired of old white men running things and serious change is in the air. This email suggest to me that they are running a little scared.

By now you are asking yourself what email I am referring to. Just wait, it will end up in your mailbox too. You've got mail!

The Constitution states that there shall be no religious test for anyone to hold office in the U.S. I guess the people trying to smear Obama decided that that left them a loophole: That the candidate's parents were vulnerable! But I'm being foolish, of course. I'm assuming that these people value, or have read, the Constitution.

Yikes on the title. Sounds like he is using an email smear campaign. Actually his mother was agnostic. From what I read about her, she sounds a lot like me and why I quit my church about the same time she stopped going. She is also like my dad who would not tell us which was the "true religion" but thought we should make up our minds when we became adults. My parents were two different Christian religions. Mom had to sign a form that she would raise us in his. He never went to church and she was religious. She would have done better to listen to him and disregard the form. Very confusing for a child to be told her mom will be tossed into eternal hellfire. "Stanley" exposed the young Barack to a variety of religions. Apathetic about religion might well describe her and me.

Excellent article! I haven't gotten to see the email yet. It's a shame that the Presidential election has to turn into a smear campaign.

I was wondering what the latest e-mail was about. Though one thing I'm hearing from the media is that all the candidates seem to be benefiting from various attacks, as it brings in more fundraising. :-)

There are responses from Barack Obama to each of these disgusting smears circulating the Internet. I forward his responses to each email address that was sent the original hateful message. It takes some time and effort, but we must combat this filthy brand of drive-by politics.
