Obama and the Health Care Plan

So, what is the big deal anyway? Providing health care to millions of Americans? What a task! It is not that easy though. Here are some obstacles that President Obama faces.

Money
Really, who is going to pay for all of this? This is a key issue. In order to make it affordable for most Americans, a new plan has to be made. But to revamp it costs money as well. How so? Well, certain things in the health care plan have to be looked at to see which ones are needed the most. Rearranging will have to take place as well, because some things might fit in other health care packages than others will. New medical equipment will have to be ordered for certain procedures, and certain things in hospitals will need updating. Someone has to pay the bill for all of this. Not to mention expanding certain wings in hospitals. More nurses, doctors, and orderlies will need jobs to work in these new areas. This will also require renovation and maybe new land will have to be cleared. So the construction workers, builders, and land contractors will need payment as well. This is a tough decision for Obama, because we are already way in debt as it is.

Coverage
When you select a health care plan, you usually pick from what is called a health care package. Coverage depends on direct payment, co-payment, or insurance plan. With direct payment, most hospital visits, emergency room visits, and check-ups by the doctor, you pay the fee right out of your pocket. With co-payment, your plan is setup so that you only pay a part of most fees. In the insurance plan, you hardly pay anything, because you either pay a set amount every month or it is deducted from your paycheck. Rewriting new plans and going over them will take time and money, not to mention the co-operation you will need from doctors and hospitals. Why? Because certain doctors do certain procedures. Also, they will undoubtedly want to negotiate as to how they will get paid. The challenge here for the President is to select good coverage plans and be cost effective.

Time
As with everything, it will take time to make a new system that will please everybody. But when it comes to heath care, people have very little patience. Time literally is of the essence, because lives hang in balance. Many people are in hospitals, and the ones that are waiting for an operation have very little time. Many people are rejected certain operations and treatments because their health care plans refuse to cover the costs of some things, or they can't afford the expensive operation bill. The good thing is though, time is on President Obama's side because he has been pushing his plan almost since the beginning of his term, so Congress is bound to give in sooner than later.
