Obama Health Plan Defies Logic

Despite the 42 million-plus Americans who do not have health insurance, President Obama's proposed government sponsored health insurance program is riddled with flaws, which may forever alter the prosperity of our nation. Perennial debt, a loss of medical innovation, and a hobbled free market are the very perils America faces if the distorted health plan bill passes.

A myriad of circumstances cast the ludicrousness of the government's healthcare reform proposal. While Mr. Obama preaches that health practitioners are forced to work with a "system" favoring drug and insurance companies, the President neglects to articulate that the same corporations epitomize the very premise that our country was founded on: capitalism.

Without free enterprise, there is no incentive for companies to sponsor research for the discovery of new cures and the development of groundbreaking medical therapies-further impeding innovation and America's advancements in medical science. Not to mention, restructuring America's health plan will discourage people from entering the medical field; thus, creating a high demand without an adequate supply of medical care providers. Meanwhile, the economy will reverberate the effects of the "new world order of healthcare reform."

France and Canada exemplify nations with government-sponsored healthcare. In France, the vast majority of doctors are self-employed and free to prescribe care, according to their expertise. As for medical breakthroughs, both countries under-perform.

With the Congressional Budget Office forecasting federal debt to exceed $12 trillion this year [Source: CNBC], it defies absolute logic to top off America's current debt load. The Obama health plan is analogous of a homeowner delinquent on their mortgage, trying to obtain a new loan for a mansion.

Amid the current state of Medicare, it seems like the administration would try to repair one botched department before moving onto devastate another health care system. Additionally, an Obama health plan will lower the standard and quality of medicine. Currently, health maintenance organizations (HMOs) and preferred physician organizations (PPOs) allocate 10-20 minutes per patient office visit. Given current medical practices coupled with budget deficits, it is non-sensical to believe that a health plan reform will enhance medical quality. A revised medical program would probably whittle the physician visit to over the counter care, or perhaps check-ups every 36-months.

In summation, the Obama health plan reform would prove to nourish our economy's paralysis. At present day, among developed countries, America has the highest rate of teenage pregnancy. Rather than continue to proliferate a nation of uneducated people; the better solution is to arm our citizens with a college degree, enabling everyone to make a smart decision about their own health plan.
