Obama Joker Poster: Just a Hint of What's Wrong with Our Society Today

Rochelle Connery
Yesterday, the Obama Joker Poster became an internet sensation. The picture of a painted-white Obama with ghastly dark circles under the eyes and bloody red, knifed lips once again graces the front pages of popular blogs and news sources. But why? Is it because the public is outraged at the Obama Joker Poster? Hardly. Much to my pleasant surprise, there are quite of few supporters of the still-anonymous Obama Joker picture artist.

More interesting than the picture itself, perhaps, is its caption, "Socialism." This has many American citizens wondering exactly why they voted for President Obama. Since I didn't vote for him, I don't have that particular abomination on my conscience. But for those who do, supporting the Obama Joker poster might seem like a way to redeem themselves.

Is it just me, or is Obama's popularity waning just a bit? Back in 2008, Obama was everything. According to some, Obama was the Messiah. But precious few people are coming to his rescue now that his messianic image has been blasphemed with the unmistakable white paint and blood that characterized Heath Ledger's portrayal of the Joker in Dark Knight.

For some of us, it didn't take an Obama Joker picture to make us realize President Obama's true character. I'm not trying to diss a sitting president, but I can't help but point out the truth of the matter. He has absolutely no idea what he's doing with the economy, and I think he'll be the last one to find out that he is utterly destroying it with this joke of a stimulus package. And even though the media is still highly touting his health care plans, there are many Americans who know full well universal health care is the next step to socialism.

Sometimes I think President Obama knows exactly what he's doing. Other times, I think he's completely clueless. Unfortunately, both theories wind up with the same results: destruction. No wonder the Obama Joker Poster artist chose the Joker's destructive character to represent Obama's present nature.

Take his recent nomination to our highest judicial system, Judge Sotomayor. A friend of mine sent me the link to a rather disturbing article about how Sotomayor voted to overturn the New Haven firefighter examination results and play the race card. Instead of ruling that the results were typical of how blacks and Hispanics ordinarily perform against whites in schools (and should therefore be no surprise when it came to firefighter examinations), they ruled that the city was prejudiced against blacks and Hispanics.

For the record, I am not a racist. I am well aware there are many highly intelligent black and Hispanics, just as there are plenty of ignorant white people. But although it is hard to ignore typical results when non-Caucasian students take tests in school and perform somewhat poorly, that's just as much an indication of poor government schooling and perhaps a bad home life and no drive to succeed. However, when a fairly distributed examination is given in a place like New Haven and fair results come back as racially biased, that should be a clear indication of where our country's standards really are. It's not in intelligence and ability, that's for sure.

I'm not too excited for Sotomayor. She will not make decisions with justice. She'll automatically assume that if 10 white men and a few hispanics and a couple of blacks outscore many other blacks and hispanics, it was obviously due to racist standards. When really, it probably was the better man trained harder/studied longer.
