Obama Just Can't Win, Plays like "Cool Hand Luke", Draws Fire from Left & Right on Libya

Will Monday's Explanation for Actions in Libya Save or Doom His Re-election Hopes?

Not being a fan of the present administration I have never the less, always promised you that I would call it like I saw it regardless. So it is with some reluctance that I find myself admitting that the man I called "Baby Bama" seems to be growing up politically and into his job.

I always felt he was a good man and wanted to do the right thing but lacked the knowledge and experience of being a leader of anything. Now as he finally shows some back bone and wisdom from experience over time, he is attacked from all sides.

Attacks from the right can be understood, at this point in the election cycle when even a loving southern son would sell his old coon dog for a chance to claim the White House; but the left? At time of war? From the likes of Ohio Representative Dennis Kucinich who now claims that there was no intent to seek impeachment, still the words are flying around aimed at this man who was once considered by many "The chosen one".

Obama played it "cool" by stalling until he could raise support among Arab states for the U.N. coalition, then used great wisdom to choose a plan that potentially brought "no boots on the ground" ( no American foot soldiers involvement ).

But why would a president in the third year of his first administration with such high hopes of a second term do something like getting involved in another war (conflict, military or police action whatever you wish to call it) in of all places the Middle East? Well maybe because it was the right thing to do? 'I know that "doing the right thing" is a bad word at the ballot box but a real leader knows this and takes the heat of doing it.

Leading is tough and sometimes the decisions are not easy to make but that is when you separate the leaders from the followers. Obama now" gets it "maybe? That is why he did basically the same thing as Bush in many situations such as "Gitmo" , Afghanistan etc.

Once the election is over you have to face the truth that every policy of your predecessor may have not been as wrong as you had accused them to be and many that are planned by you may need a little work as well. This is accepting reality and facing it is a sign of maturity.

Now all are sharpening their swords against "the chosen one" ready to feast on the formerly "sacred calf" because in a time of near double digit unemployment and mounting unrest at home it makes political sense to go with the mob and the mob does not usually support spending on foreign wars while they see no immediate positive effects on their lives. But the question does warrant asking, why are we there?
Simple answer: this situation in Lybia and the others going on around the Middle East represent a golden opportunity to save foreign lives in the present and American lives in the future. This one event by Obama could accomplish more than ten years of bloody fighting could ever hope to do for future peace in the world.

This is why we should care about a country of whose people of just a year ago would not have given us a thimble of water if we were crawling through their desert? Hopefully this will be answered to the satisfaction of most on Monday evening March 27, 2011 when Obama makes his speach and explains his move. The president will make that speech that should explain to us his reasoning and it would be nice if we could all listen as adults.
