I voted for Obama because he convinced me he was the man he claimed to be which is the type person I want as POTUS--one who seems to be governed more by logic than lobbyists. I voted for a man who is known to educate himself on the issues and consider various views in an effort to make decisions that brings as much benefit to as many as possible. (Does that make me a socialist? If so, I am.) I voted for Obama because, from what I see, he believes much as I believe.
I don't always agree with Obama, but then I don't always agree with anyone. (Does that make me an independent. If so, I am.) I really didn't like the mosque idea, but Obama stood for the constitution. That is what he swore to do.
There are some areas in which I, too, fail to find Obama to be the omnipotent leader we had perhaps dreamed of. (Does that make me a realist? If so, I am.) But I won't withdraw my support when he faces hard decisions, because that is just the nature of the job. And I won't change my mind or deny his positive accomplishments because others ridicule him, because that is just the nature of maligners. But, I will pray that God guides him in this demanding role to serve our nation, because that is just the nature of Christians.
Obama is the POTUS. He represents our country. I want him to succeed. But there are those who can't stand the idea--can't tolerate the thought of how their minds might have to flex and expand if he does well--those who must invent conspiracy scenarios to explain the fact that he was even elected. This I find to be very sad--a sad commentary on the human condition in 2010. Admittedly, the fact that our nation elected a non-white candidate as POTUS shows just how developed our nation is. And when political opponents hit him hard on his positions, decisions, and politics, I love it--because they are treating him just like any other candidate. But the never-ending acrid spew from irrational, prejudiced haters that we have been exposed to ever since Obama's election is a "not-so-subtle" reminder that we've come a long way, baby, and we still have far to go.
