Obama or NObama?

Non-partisans and Alternative Political Parties Treat Obama with Skepticism After the Election

Michael Wais Jr.
On Election Day of 2008 I had worked for the polls.

That afternoon there seemed to be a fake astro-turf group preventing poll-workers from working and voters from voting. The group had said that they had gone by the name of "Election Protection" and was stubborn enough to have even made a request to video-tape the voters and the polling place. They were later kicked off of the property for their interference at the polls. When they were loitering there and harassing those of the people trying to work, there was an average amount of people at the polls (like two or three people coming every five to ten minutes); but, when the group had been forced to leave the location voters entered in masses. About three-quarters of the people that came were black. About one-quarter of the people that arrived to vote were Mexican-American citizens. A good rough calculation of the white or lighter-skinned people who came to vote would be about somewhere between 0.5% to 2% of the voters.

After the surge of participants arrived to cast their votes, I went outside and took a walk on my break. I received a phone call from a friend who said that McCain was winning. Tears were welling up in my eyes because I didn't want that. I didn't want McCain to make matters worse by using his impulsiveness in proposing solutions for the mortgage crises of Freddie Mac's and Fannie Mae's bad-lending practices for mortgages and the 2008 economic crisis. I didn't want his volcanic temper to influence his possible proposals for how to resolve the snags associated with US withdrawal from the current War in Iraq. Just think about the hidden controversy with McCain arrogantly starting a dangerous "wet-start" fire with his plane on the USS Forrestal aircraft carrier on July 29, 1967 and how that attitude might influence politics for the worse in this country (1).

I was relieved to have heard later that night that Obama won the presidential race for 2008. However, it makes sense that those in non-partisan or alternative political camps would be worried: Obama's campaign was such a winning campaign when compared to the terrible handling of the McCain presidential campaign. This could lead to idolization of Obama instead of an objective scrutiny of his background or his capabilities. Some of Obama's detractors had gone so far as to accuse Obama of literally having his own "cult-like following"(2). That accusation seems more to me like an over-exaggerated allegation against what usually goes on in politics-as-usual. (After all, what politician does not base his or her campaign over anything but a "cult of personality" in the figurative sense?) The reason that hero-worship may be a concern when it comes to presidential campaigns is that there is nothing visible presenting itself that could damage the Obama campaign if McCain would only make over-the-top mistakes or over-the-top statements that can only sabotage his own campaign. I'm reminded of how in the 1990s Clinton succeeded in: Stabilizing the economy, giving added protections to gay and lesbian minorities in the military, creating more jobs, and not having a war during his term; But the four-day bombing of Iraq that Clinton ordered because of Iraq's refusal to cooperate with U. N. Weapons Inspectors is often overlooked. (For more info, read http://www.britannica.com/EBchecked/topic/121813/Bill-Clinton/215395/Presidency/ .) (Even while Obama's claim that parts of the Constitution [that were written in the Constitution in a more racist part of history in this country] should be changed makes a lot of sense in a very progressive way , no one seems to be bringing up some of the controversial implications of his thoughts on altering the US Constitution [i.e.: More politicians deciding they may want to take out even more parts of the Constitution for "the greater good" while people would not see their freedoms taken away because of politicians discarding or revising amendments to the Constitution starting in small subtle ways until the politicians could make even broader and greater restrictions on citizens from the act of revising the US Constitution] (3). Not to mention that even when allegations are made that Obama and Former Vice-President Dick Cheney may be related as cousins, the allegations are too often overlooked or ignored by the general public who take little to no time investigating how ideologies of related family members might influence political agendas (4).) Webster Tarpley, historian and author of "George Bush: The Unauthorized Biography", states that it is fair to learn about Obama's personal history as it might involve positive or negative repercussions on Obama's political career as President of The United States (5).

Tarpley also claims that Barack Obama has been involved with members of The Trilateral Commission for some time. The Trilateral Commission, he says, are a group of powerful bankers involved with a totalitarian New World Order. He says that Obama is a puppet used by The Trilateral Commission to encourage warring between different foreign nations in an effort to have allied nations strike at the countries Russia and China. Then, theoretically, the United States can seize the power that was once possessed by nations like China or Russia; while profiteering over global world war. This does make sense when one figures in the neutral stance that Obama takes on the US withdrawal from the Middle East. The President uses unilateral double-speak when explaining how and when to use force during the crisis of the US war in the Middle East (6). Of course since the US has been active in making contributions to Israel's government (7), it makes sense what historian Webster Tarpley has said about Obama's involvement with a possible proposal for a future Syrian treaty. Somehow the United Nations are going to have to make proposed negotiations with Israel and Palestine to make withdrawal from the Middle East possible, using the same amount of robustness the United States had earlier in invading the Middle East. The results of a proposed Israeli/Palestinian treaty are obvious: If Israel wants to attack the Palestinian people and abuse their civil rights the United States can cut off whatever financing or weapons it has given generously to the Israeli government; Likewise, If Syria wants to attack Israel and break a treaty between the neighboring countries then all that the US has to do is keep Syria listed as a "rogue, terrorist nation". If Tarpley is correct that we have to worry about a blind-spot in foreign policy requests and standards (similar to those blind-spots in foreign policy affairs in the Clinton administration), isn't it enough to feel positive about answers for the economy becoming more stable again or crime-rates going down or jobs in this country being created? Isn't it important enough that this country gets out of a war with the Middle East and that this administration is considered a peace-time administration?

On the other hand one thing that benefited Obama politically is that the disruption of the failed assassination attempt on him that was made by Neo-Nazi groups had given more attention to the actual terrorists that have been off-the-radar in this nation (8), such as white-extremist groups involved with terrorist church-burning acts (9) or pro-life groups involved with bombing abortion clinics (10). Of course I am still baffled why every time I had driven past a Planned Parenthood clinic not once has there been a DHS Van guarding the clinics from potential terrorist attacks when apparently there is supposed to be a massively heightened terror-alert in the country. As a result of unnoticed extremist groups drawing more attention to themselves because of the foiled assassination attempt more of the REAL terrorist groups allowed to thrive off-the-grid in this country can actually be investigated and broken up. No more would people have to worry about numerous false hits on the terrorist watch-list, such as that of Peace Activist Nelson Mandela or 6-year-old John William Anderson (11). And once the Department of Homeland Security can begin to investigate and disrupt actual terrorist attempts, DHS employees can take more pride in their work. From that source of pride, Department of Homeland Security employees can put more confidence and integrity in their jobs and as a positive consequence of that we can all be that much safer in this country from real terrorist attempts.

If extremists would succeed in assassinating Barack Obama in the future, Joe Biden could likely be Obama's successor. Joe Biden also takes a neutral stance on the war in the Middle East: Proposing to have a no-fly zone imposed in Iraq and replacing troops at their locations in the Middle East with military or military-police policing the areas of conflict after withdrawal (12). Even though he is guilty of not addressing direct-action in the closure of the US war on Iraq, he has been involved with some great causes and hearings. Joe Biden had been fighting for renewable energy resources (13). He had also been involved with causes supporting women (14), which I had heard of no VP or Presidential candidate talk about. The thought of Obama hypothetically being assassinated is, of course, horrible. The irony is that if terrorist extremists would assassinate Obama they would succeed at nothing, because there is someone just as skilled and experienced (if not more) who could easily pick up where the Obama would leave off. It would be like the total opposite of the September 11 tragedy, because people could find comfort in a stable administration that would be addressing issues directly and reasonably. Also citizens would not make quick decisions on policy or civil-liberties with their emotions rather than their sense of reason.

The best part about the '08 Election had been that a black man won presidency. It's amazing how far the African-American community has come. When my parents were my age, this presidency would've been like part of a science-fiction story. There will be so many African-American entrepreneurs, artists, and leaders thirty years from now. These will obviously be the black children who witnessed the results of the election after they become adults. Now even more citizens of the United States can see for themselves that they all have a voice, especially minorities. Minorities who have been oppressed and have had their opportunities restricted for years now possess the confidence and pride to realize that they can create the kind of world that they would want to belong to. We don't do things for our politicians. Our politicians are all accountable to ordinary citizens like me and many others first and foremost. And now Obama has already approached his accountability to act on behalf of the common people with his new website (15). It takes questions and comments on what to do in order to support this country directly from the people. Of course, it is his first term so he has no choice but to get things right. If he is like an ordinary politician he will want to run for a second-term. In that case he will HAVE TO support the citizens and their needs. It's an excellent, optimistic catch to making the United States more stable for as many people as possible.

Okay, I will agree that I've never seen John McCain breakdance so my last comment was pretty biased and unfair. A bipartisan break-dance debate ought to be in order!! ;P

  • Michael Wais, Jr.1/25/2011

Linda, I don't really want to talk about that in a public forum because occasionally those topics get pretty hostile. What will I say about personal politics? I still believe that Barack Obama is a hella better dancer than John McCain. I'll leave it at that and say no more unless it's in another article. Lolol!

  • Linda Rogacki1/24/2011

Curious, what do you think now in 2011?

  • Michael Wais, Jr.1/24/2011

Thanks for the compliment David. I'm really glad you enjoyed my article :) .

  • David B. Bolick1/24/2011

Keith is wrong, you are a good writer. I voted for McCain even though I was a registered Libertarian at the time. Ron Paul is one of the only few real Americans in congress.

  • Michael Wais, Jr.1/22/2011

Thanks LarrWayne. I really like how the article wasn't taking sides one way or another. People asked equally, "So you're saying you're for Obama?", "Are you saying you agree with McCain?" Honestly I voted for Ron Paul (which is the only extent I'll talk about that) and I wasn't trying to do anything that exploited politics at all. I like how Obama's administration finally addressed domestic terrorists such as insidious and anti-social white supremacist groups, while at the same time I can see where some people come from when they approve of McCain's zero-tolerance attitude towards those who would perform violent and horrible acts against this country, similar to the attitude of Bush and Cheney that was so controversial (though to a certain degree understandable). I'm glad you really dug the article :) !

I appreciate an honest collection of thoughts, whether I agree with them or not. (I am not talking to Keith here).

  • Michael Wais, Jr.7/23/2009

[cont. ...] around and say, "You see, it really was better under this administration." I do like how under the Obama Administration, more terrorist groups that have been operating under-the-radar in the U. S. have been red-flagged (i. e.: the KKK, other white-extremist groups, and extremist terrorist groups that justify their violence under "Pro-Life" commentary).

I really like how your comments made me think (without me having an opinion on them one way or the other). REALLY cool commentary back to me, in my opinion. Btw, since I don't know everything, feel free to tell me how I could've made some other errors in this article or my comment back to you if you'd like to. :D

  • Michael Wais, Jr.1/17/2009

Wow Keith, you are so polite. Where I live most people are just as courteous as you (especially since the majority of people my age act like spoiled immature jerks). You know, since you felt it was so important to come on here and tell me my writing sucks could you please tell me and everyone else reading this why my writing sucks?
Oh, your manners suck man. You should be as alone as me. Then we could sporadically complain to each other about things beyond our control. I like that idea.

    Peace Keith...
