Obama Plan to Lower Health Care Cost for Americans

Choice + Competion = Decreased Cost

Ranee Wright

The Health Insurance Industry are all for profit and at this point nearly monopolistic. Obama sets out to increase accountability and decrease cost for all Americans without an increase in deficit. He offers a not-for-profit option for the uninsured, increasing affordability to the uninsured and small business owners. Medicare will remain as is, without affect from this reform. It will slow cost rather than increase it. When Medicare was introduced, there was similar resistance. I believe health insurance needs more regulations.

Obama promotes health insurance regulation similar to car insurance. A requirement that will decrease taxes for the taxpayer. How much sense does it make that health insurance is not the law but basic auto insurance is? No one should be denied health coverage. When they are, who pays? Taxpayers. So, let's make a change for the better! "The U.S. is the only industrialized country in the world, democratic or non-democratic, without universal healthcare for all citizens provided by government-funded coverage." http://usliberals.about.com/od/healthcare/i/GovHealthCare.htm

Obama's plan would increase competition and choice for the American health insurance plans. Right now, small business owners have high premiums/deductibles, etc. Health care needs reform. Obama understands and has said he only needs to change what is not working in the system and keep what is working. Canada is a great example of government regulated health insurance. Gov't should look at other countries and Health Systems to decipher what is working or failing. I have worked on the side of health insurance. Obama has cited Geisinger Health System (where I am employed) on three separate occasions, as being a high quality health care facility, offering below average health care cost to its patients.

People need to stop being ignorant. Too much falsity has surrounded the proposed health care reform as a scare tactic to change. Many Americans continue getting screwed over by their HMO's, etc. With reform, no one will be denied coverage for pre-existing conditions. Check your source and don't limit yourself to just one source. Go to www.senate.gov, read bills, don't formulate an opinion without doing your homework (that is ignorance). Stop thinking socialism v. capitalism...America is Utilitarian - "described by the phrase "the greatest good for the greatest number of people'"!! Think about how the community really affects you. If you have children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews...the community they are raised in will affect their psych. It's not one for one...but one for all - a community - helping each other be the best we can be. I want the best for my daughter and son's friend that cannot afford healthcare. I am a single parent, struggling in the economy. I believe this reform will decrease the cost of medical assistance, which currently costs billions annually. Americans step up!! Research, don't be ignorant and let your voice be heard!! Would love to debate this subject!
