Obama Plan Starts at Change.gov

Lyn Lomasi
President-elect Barack Obama has already gotten started with putting his plan for change into effect with use of the new website change.gov. He is asking that Americans do their part in changing America.

On the change.gov homepage, a quote from President-elect Obama sits off to the right: "Today we begin in earnest the work of making sure that the world we leave our children is just a little bit better than the one we inhabit today." That quote sets the mood for the website's purpose.

The change.gov website apparently serves as an avenue for Americans to stay informed of what is going on throughout transition from President-elect to President. It features a countdown of days until Barack's inauguration. Underneath the website's change.gov title appear the words "Office of the President-elect," which seems to imply that the website is acting as a virtual office.

One thing I noticed right off the bat about the change.gov website is the fact that Barack Obama is asking for the input of Americans for everything on the agenda. Some of the agenda items listed on change.gov include healthcare, energy & environment, education, economy, disabilities, immigration, family, and much more.

On each agenda page of change.gov , Americans are asked to submit their ideas about the changes they'd like to see happen. The top of the idea submission template displays the words "Of the People, by the People." Right before the submission button, Americans are urged to "be part of the change you're looking for."

Already this is a different strategy than has been used in previous elections. Actually though, the concept itself has been in effect from the beginning of Barack Obama's campaign. At the original campaign website, www.barackobama.com, Americans were also urged to share their ideas on each of the issues in much the same way.

Throughout Obama's campaign, the main agenda has been change. People may be wondering or even talking amongst each other, asking if all of this change is really possible. Will the ideas submitted at the change.gov website be considered? There is only one way to find that out. Submit your ideas to change.gov and see if they come to fruition. If the ideas are used, you helped change America.

American people spoke their insistence for change by voting Barack into office. Now it is time for those same Americans to step up and help make that change happen, be it through idea submissions at change.gov or other actions or services.

Please appoint Charles Stenholm as Secretary of Agriculture. Please don't fall for the HSUS and all the other animal activists propaganda on animal rights. They are really out to make them selves look good and penalize the avarage pet owner. They are not really interested in the rights of animals or the owners of pets, they want to make pet owners answer to trumped up rules and regulations and put legitimate breeders of cats and dogs out of business. Gone will be the ability to find a quality and well socialized pet. Small breeders care about their dogs and cats and these animals are by far better socialized than animals from big corporate breeders who don't have time or personnel to play with and love the animal.

I like the idea of government hopping on the 21st century social media train with this new site. Hopefully more Americans will help make the change happen by getting more involved and being educated about the issues. Great read!

You know, I truly believe that Barack Obama wants and values input from Americans. I remember reading his plan on barackobama.com during the campaign, and I was so impressed by his plan to regularly seek input from the American people. I'm glad to see he's following through. Great article!
