Obama Prefers College Football Playoffs

McCain Says He Wants Steroids Out of Sports

In an interview on ESPN with Chris Berman, Berman asked presidential candidate Barack Obama what he would like to see change in sports. Obama answered with something interesting indeed. Obama said he would like an eight team playoff between the top eight teams in the country. He also said that "Computers shouldn't be allowed to determine who the best team is, and that a playoff would be the only way and fair way to determine the top college team."

Many agree with the prospect of playoff college football, but it has been shot down numerous times by the NCAA. Will we ever see college football playoffs? Maybe with Obama as president, or maybe not, but the prospect does seem very exciting. Obama seems to be an avid sports fan, and remarked how he played basketball in high school and that he had a "street ball" type game.

College football rankings, or the BCS standings are computerized and there are many factors like who beats who and by how much all factored into a system to come out with the top team. It is flawed strategy some think, although some people are happy with the system and think that a college football playoff system would be more unfair then the current ranking strategy

After he was finished speaking with Barack Obama, Berman switched gears and then asked John McCain what he would like to see change in sports. McCain stated that he would like to see steroids completely eliminated as they "damage the integrity of all sports competition." He sounded genuinely concerned about the issue as well. He was concerned about the health of people who use steroids, and the health of kids who use them early on with their bodies still developing. He also said that he "could go all the way to the White House," although the polls show he is behind by about six or seven points.

Barack Obama and John McCain talking about what they would change in sports was a refresher from the usual political scene they are both a part of. It was a look into the lighter side of both the candidates, something that may help Americans decide who to choice on election day. McCain, with his noble choice of "abolishing steroids," and Obama with his "let's fix this college football ranking system," addressed two major problems in sports. After all, that's what politicians are for, to fix all our problems.
