Obama State of the Union Time to Address the Issues

Economy, Jobs, Spending

Obama said it is time for "change," a time when we can have "hope." Now is the time for Obama to admit things are not working. We need to focus on jobs and cut spending. You will hear him tonight say many of the same things that McCain said on his campaign trail. We need to cut spending and we need to be transparent. McCain was right. Obama disagreed with him while campaigning and tonight you will see him flip flop with the announcement of a spending freeze. Only the spending freeze will just be a means for him to change your way of thinking. It will not change anything else. You can't spend 700 billion in one day, then freeze 15 billion for 10 years and be okay. If you could, I would write myself a check today.

Because of the condition of the economy, many Americans will be tuning in closely to the State of the Union address by President Obama at 9 pm Eastern Time tonight (Wednesday, January 27, 2010). Everyone will be listening intently to see if Obama provides real solutions for the economical conditions and government deficit or if a "smoke and mirrors" approach will be taken as an attempt to just change Americans perception.

Fox News Hannity and Greta Van Sustern said reliable sources told them the President was expected to talk about the deficit and unemployment. Both said the President intends to propose a spending freeze, which was strongly debated on their shows Tuesday night as just a "gimmick" to appease the American people.

Governor (MN) Tim Pawlenty, guest speaker on Greta Van Sustern, says he believes the strategy of the President is "mostly a gimmick" and not a legitimate effort to change circumstances. He said it was kind of like "ordering 3 Big Mac's" at McDonald's and then ordering a "diet" soda. The intentions may be there, but there are no real logical actions behind the intentions. Pawlenty was even more dramatic about the deficit saying government spending was spiraling out of control and called it an outright "ponzi scheme."

Hannity, being more extreme and direct said the President was a "fraud" and that we couldn't believe anything he said in his State of the Union due to broken campaign promises. He played multiple clips of Obama saying he promised transparency and disclosure on C-Span, which never happened. He also played clips of the President speaking out against the spending freeze that he opposed on the campaign trail.

The truth about the spending freeze is that it really wouldn't do much good at this point without major cutbacks on government programs. Americans are angry about the wasteful spending, especially that which was buried in the stimulus bill and caused Americans over 700 billion dollars. In an attempt to create jobs, President Obama promised the Stimulus Bill would keep unemployment under 8%. The unemployment rate is now well over 10% with no end in site.

Republicans and Democrats alike appeared on Fox News with Hannity and Greta and agreed that Obama needs to focus on Jobs. More than anything else, jobs need to be the focus of his attention right now. They also pointed out that of the 787 billion dollars of the stimulus money, only 264 billion has been spent. Everyone, even NASCAR Owner and Driver Michael Waltrip agreed that the remaining 523 billion dollars should not be spent.

Governor Tim Pawlenty said, "Our Nation is at Peril." The Presidents message this evening is going to be hard to deliver if there is no real substance behind it. According to polls, the State of the Union address typically does not raise the public opinion of the President. Only 8% of the Presidents received a better approval rate after a State of the Union Address and typically their ratings drop. I don't see how his approval rating could drop any more. His approval rating has dropped farther and faster than any other President ever.

According to the Daily Presidential Tracking Poll, "The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Tuesday (January 26, 2010) shows that 26% of the nation's voters Strongly Approve of the way that Barack Obama is performing his role as President. Forty percent (40%) strongly disapprove, giving Obama a Presidential Approval Index rating of -14."

On December 22 of last year in 2009, his Index Rating was as low as -22. Check the trend tomorrow after his address to the Nation to see if his rating goes up or down: SEE TRENDS IN RATING.
