Obama Tax Plan for Taking Your Money

Clark Richards
If you were poor and the government gave you a check every year to insure you could get along, would you want to work hard enough to stop the check from coming? The Obama tax plan will insure that a government check will be in the mail for those who currently don't pay any federal income taxes.

Currently, half of all that file income taxes, don't pay any tax at all. That seems fair. The government is not taking any of that money to pay for roads, schools, defense and all the other things that we enjoy simply by living in America. The question is - should the folks who do not pay any taxes, also receive a government check? The Obama tax plan says that is fair too. The problem is that those who do pay taxes will have to pay for the check that goes to those who don't pay taxes.

Will the Obama tax plan destroy the incentive for an individual to work a bit harder?

There is a saying that goes, "necessity is the mother of invention." The best thing that ever happened to me is that my family, while they loved me, made it abundantly clear that when I turned 18, I would be on my own. My mother and father worked hard to provide the necessities, but if I wanted more, I had to earn it. At 14, I started working - mowed lawns, shoveled snow, delivered newspapers, worked in a restaurant and did whatever I could to acquire some wealth and obtain the few things I wanted. Along the way, I learned that it was important to save. I also learned that if I studied in school, the education I obtained would open doors to acquire more.

I'm glad my parents provided a critical lesson for me. It steeled my determination to succeed. It provided the motivation essential to move forward. Would it have been the same if I had been given everything I wanted? I suspect not, because basically, I would rather "kick back", not work too hard, "hang out" with friends and otherwise enjoy life without straining too much.

I pay taxes and perhaps it is just me, but I object to having our government decide to give some of my money to those that already don't pay taxes. I don't want anyone to be poor, but I also know that giving money away will not provide the incentive to work harder or to acquire the education or training for those who already pay no taxes. The Obama tax plan certainly isn't fair to those who do pay taxes.

The New York Post has a story that tells the truth about the Obama tax plan. It's worth the read for those that pay taxes.

Great piece. Im guessing John must be on welfare. Tax incentives for businesses help EVERYONE, most notably the consumers and employees who are able to continue to work and consume. Tax incentives for the poor only help the poor (when they help at all).

The Reptilians in the White House have been "spreading the wealth" to war profiteers. Our taxes are going to Halliburton instead of education and fixing up America.

John I appreciate your thoughtful comments. The issue here and in my other article about "spreading the wealth" is not about who is the beneficiary of the wealth, but about who spreads it about. Our government is generally most inefficient in accomplishing the goal. Leavening tax dollars in the hands of taxpayers works best. I know well the challenge of taking care of loved ones. I contribute substantially to the support of my 90 year old mother. Her income when she retired was satisfactory, but over the years has eroded. I don't want the government to take other people's money to support my mother, I can do that without any bureaucracy. But as the government raises my taxes, the message seems to be that they want to do it. I know it is not possible for every family to take care of their own and for that reason government assistance is often essential. I don't think either liberals or conservatives would disagree with that. Wish you the best.

Tax incentives for business is re-distributing our taxes... hence our wealth. The multi-million dollar award for the invention of a car battery is re-distributing our taxes..hence spreading the wealth. The only time conservatives complain is when the wealth is spread towards those unable to care for themselves. As long as the conservatives are the beneficiaries of spreading the wealth, they don't complain. They have this naive ingnorant view that everyone they see sitting on a front porch all day is lazy. Nice dream. Some day, one of these conservatives may have to care for a family member suffering from mental illness. Then we'll see how they react when someone tells them their son is lazy. I heard you missed the last page of the tax plan proposed by His Imminence - it states, and I quote "Bend over, grab your ankles and take one for the team!" Redistribute the wealth my ass!
