Obama Threatens Democrats that Fail to Support His Healthcare Bill

Tony Jingo
Barack Obama threatened to withdraw his support for Congressmen up for reelection if they do not support his healthcare bill. A November visit from the president can raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for a Democrat seeking reelection.

Over the weekend, WH Press Secretary Gibbs claimed that healthcare could be the law of the land by next week, more on that here. The boasts are not without anxiety or desperation. The president ordered Congress to schedule a vote by March 18, before a scheduled trip to Asia with his family.

The Pelosi team was not able to pull off a March 18th deadline despite her past magic tricks and convinced Obama to redraw the line. The president canceled the Asia itinerary with his family and rescheduled the trip without them for March 21.

Now that the president remained stateside, he is personally calling Democrats that are still on the fence and will make various appearances reminiscent of his presidential campaign.

During this push for Obamacare, which some have called obscene, the president by week's end will spend 20-million dollars on influence and advertising, a cost that coincides with a presidential campaign.

What isn't lost on many is the threat by the president to potentially harm upcoming Democratic elections. So, is jeopardizing the future standing of the Party on healthcare reform really about those suffering the ills of a chaotic US healthcare industry, or is it about Obamacare and controlling one-sixth of the economy?

Speaking of the economy, President Obama claimed that as a result of record breaking 10% unemployment rates, jobs will be his number one focus. That promise was made in January, marking his one year in office and after his failed prediction that unemployment will not rise above 8%.

With President Obama's dismissal of 53% of the American people opposed to his healthcare bill, a dismissal of the Stupak Dozen (twelve Democrats objecting to federal funds for abortion), to threatening to harm his own Party's upcoming elections if Democrats do not vote as he says, we as a nation may very well have devolved into a thugocracy.

Sure was a lot of arm twisting on a poor bill.

I commend the 34 Democrats who opposed the Bill - We do have some hope!

Can't wait to get this entire bunch out! Just hope it isn't too late for the country. I fear for our kids ... And they won't even know what was lost.

As well he should have! Lyndon Johnson was famous for this, and got scads of legislation passed. You can't join the club and not follow the rules! You think other prezes haven't done this?

Twenty million certainly could have been better spent in this country! Owie! :)

Well written article. I see, by the comments, that there are several like minded people out there; myself included. Tony, I've been reading your comments and get a kick out of your sense of humor. I tried to send you a private message but was told my time to do so had timed out. Never had that happen before.

Nuthin' like a good strong-arming job to make people fall in line. Isn't that just the essence of tolerance? NOT.

Many Liberal Americans share your sentiment Mr. Payne..and as per the norm of the uninformed they bash Bush and laud the current president with out actually articulating any positive he has done now..or in the past.

I have a lot of support for Obama, and I really do think that he has done an amazing job, given the mess that the country was left in by his predecessor, however the healthcare reforms might just be his Waterloo unfortunately.

He's become a cartoon. I am not buying his inevitability strategy; it's so phony.
