I watched and listened to the debate last night. Meaning that I watched it on TV but then I looked away so as not to be distracted by the "color" of the debate as Professor K would say now Associate Dean of the J-School in Columbia SC. Many times we are distracted by the style of one candidate over another. This morning I made sure to get up bright and early before 0500 hours in the AM so I could get the local news spin. I listened to WIS television channel 10 here in Columbia. News anchor Stuart Moore offered this commentary the two candidates clashed on the issues. The second anchor on the show Gormley offered this that the debate was more about economics and both candidates did their best to defend their records. Further along in the newscast they had 2 college types one a Republican and the other an independent. Both young anglo-american women. But one could not stereotype them one way or the other as Palin Hockey types or Yuppie Ivy league such as Hillary
Clinton or Michelle Obama. Last night's debate pretty much solidified each woman's position on the choice of their candidate. On the GOP side of the house the young lady told WIS that though Senator Obama continually criticized Senator McCain that his administration would just be 4 more years of the same failed George Bush policy in the war,the economy and so on. She disagreed and said this would not be the case as evidenced by the voting record of John McCain versus George Bush Jr. On the independent and perhaps Democratic side of the house the young lady stated that Senator Obama convinced her that he had the answers to our current situation dealing with our faltering economy even with a 700 billion dollar bailout that was suppose to help it. We can see that the stocks are still falling even as I am writing down my thoughts. You would now think that locally Senator Obama would have South Carolina and Columbia thinking "blue" ? Wrong!!! Believe it or
not even as Senator Barack Hussein Obama takes a substantial lead in the polls prior and even now the margin widens. According to polls in SC 54% are for McCain and only 34% are for Obama. When I switched off the local news. I can see how out of touch our state is with our nation and the rest of the world. This writer is led to believe that a McCain Plain ticket would be bad and disastrous for us locally, nationally and internationally. Why? Perhaps McCain is a maverick and has distanced himself from the Bush & Chaney administration. Maybe we won't have four more years of another Bush regime. Deep in my gut. Because McCain is a military type a throw-back to the 1950's and great Presidents that have been former soldiers. And war always seems to be on the frontal lobe of their brain. And as a former soldier. A President like that or in my opinion is or might be looking for another war or wars. Because people will expect that from him and he will deliver on
that. Look at Iran and Pakistan. McCain has his sights set on them. I could go on and on. The draft could come back. Nuclear weapons could come back on the table and the arms race with the former Soviet Union. I just got out the military in 2001. And most of my short career was in Western Europe before the infamous Berlin Wall fell down. I say fall because and I will get lambasted for saying that Ronald Reagan had nothing to do with the fall of the wall. That's another story for another time. I will say that many had escaped from Ost (East)Berlin making it almost empty on the East side including Guards jumping the wall or fleeing from outside it to the west or just managing to escape from the inside to going outside and over to the west. I was there when all that was happening. I know I have strayed way off subject. Yes I have rattled off my rant about why we don't need John McCain as our next commander and chief. So why do we need or even want Obama in
a nutshell. No offense GOP,John McCain,Sarah Palin or Right wing and some conservatives. We don't need a Right-wing,Jingoistic,reactionary,war-monger,isolationist in the whitehouse again. We need as our next President and Vice President Barack Obama and Joseph Biden. For the good and future of the world and especially AMERICA.

The first debate was over general topics but mainly foreign policy (Iraq & Afghanistan) which is John McCain's field of expertise and the second debate was on the overall economy and Senator Obama is still ahead in the polls and with America.
