President Obama wins the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize - not sure why they call it a "prize" unless they handed out those little blue tickets for door prizes - which shocked many around the world which is a shocker in itself. So much so, that many journalists around the world swarmed the Nobel Peace prize committee chairman Thorbjoern Jagland of just what this was about since Obama has not accomplished anything for what the award was designed for.
What was even more of a shocker is the fact that the committee had received 205 nominations and Obama was one of those 205 nominations. The deadline for those nominations was February 1, 2009, less than two weeks after Obama took the oath of office as President. It does cast a notion of who this person or persons were that nominated him and to what degree did they arrive at such an absurd declaration that he deserves such an award.
This announcement occurred while NASA bombed the moon - kind of strange wouldn't you say?
Thorbjoern Jagland responded by saying - "Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future." Furthermore, "We have not given the prize for what may happen in the future. We are awarding Obama for what he has done in the past year. And we are hoping this may contribute a little bit for what he is trying to do."
Then Mr. Jagland goes on to say, "Committee members were hopeful that the prize would add momentum to Obama's efforts as he considers whether to expand the war in Afghanistan, prepares to withdraw from Iraq, and struggles to build momentum to restart Israeli-Palestinian peace talks and assemble an international effort to stop Iran's nuclear program."
You are rewarding Obama for what he has done in the past year, or will do, or won't do, or - never mind. My question is what if he fails at all of this, will he have to give the peace prize back - and let's not forget the money?
In past years, the Nobel Peace Prize committee has been criticized for handing out the award to non-deserving individuals while those who actually did something for humanity were hung out to dry. Take for instance, just how serious were they on giving a terrorist, a Palestinian terrorist, Yasser Arafat, the Nobel Peace prize? Is it me or has this so-called "peace" prize becoming a joke these days? Just what did Arafat accomplish that was peaceful? He accomplished absolutely nothing; neither before nor after the award was presented to him - no peace deal was ever accomplished and Arafat continued to support murder and terroristic acts.
Alfred Nobel, in his written will in 1895 stated that the peace prize should go to a person who shall have done the most or the best work between nations and abolition or reduction of standing armies and the formation and spreading of peace congresses.
Well with those qualifications, that surely counts Obama the winner. If any peace has been achieved by Obama, it is sure hard to find other than his peaceful demur after failing to secure an Olympic bid for his cronies back in Chicago.
By standing on high ground, Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) - who by the way was designated a foreign terrorist organization by the United States in 1995 - applauded Obama's win - like any good terrorist should-by stating, "CAIR and the American Muslim community stand ready to partner with President Obama in promoting the 'mutual interest and mutual respect' he mentioned in his inaugural address."
Makes one wonder what Nihad means by 'mutual interest and mutual respect' - respect for whom - terrorists and appeasement skills?
As for how Obama feels about receiving this award? "I do not feel I deserve to be in the company of so many transformative figures who have been honored by this prize. I also know this prize reflects the kind of world that those men and women ... want to build," Obama said of the prize committee. "I do not view it as recognition of my own accomplishments but rather an affirmation of American leadership."
Mighty nice of him to accept an award as an affirmation of American leadership but I am at a loss of what that leadership is with foreclosures at a record high, our national debt being tripled since he became president, unable to make any decision concerning Afghanistan and the loss of millions of jobs - I guess that one can call that "leadership" shifting backwards unless leadership calls for parties in the White House.
The Nobel Peace prize has now entered a realm of no return as its significance has been diminished and has now become the Nobel Appease prize in honor of Obama. Awards are rewarded for accomplishments, not based on popularity or what a person "might" do. But I suppose in Obama's case, the loss of the Olympic bid for Chicago created a pity rain and now he owns the world.
Obama did however, concluded his acceptance speech by saying, "I will accept this award as a call to action."
The only exciting action I have seen is the bombing of the moon which produced no casualties and was peaceful - okay, the liftoff may have knocked a fly off the rail - but unfortunately the moon event came in a close second in winning.
WILL THE REAL NOBEL PEACE PRIZE WINNER PLEASE STEP FORWARD?

Post a CommentNow that I can agree with. I am sure more will be handed out to others in his administration as the cries are becoming more common now.
Don't you know why he got it? Everyone gets a trophy now, so the losing childrens' feelings don't get hurt.
