Obama Would Rather Wage War Against Supreme Court and Not Al-Qaeda

Jacob Horn
So one of the big stories from the State of the Union address was when Obama called out the Supreme Court regarding their recent ruling in a case known as Citizens United. Of course the right has played this up in every way possible but I really do not have a major problem with what Obama did. It is true that no president, that I know of, has ever called out the Supreme Court on national television as the Supreme Court sat five feet away but in this country we love to talk about how it is better to say things to someones face rather than behind their backs. Obama followed this principle perfectly.

The problem is Obama's recent rhetoric goes entirely against every platform he ran on. He was suppose to bring change and hope and criticizing the Supreme Court in front of millions does not quite convey that message. It seems like ever since Scott Brown's victory Obama has become 'Evil Obama.' He seems more eager to go to war against American citizens rather than Al-Qaeda. It is like he cannot make up his mind which character he wants to play. Each day he goes to the closet and he either picks the suit titled 'Combative Obama' or 'Hope and Change Obama.'

I believe 'Combative Obama' is the one we will see more of in the next few years. If you listen to liberals they all have the same gripe, Obama was not far enough left in his first year. I truly believe, that on many issues, Obama tried to find a middle ground. The problem, his middle, is still too far left for many Americans. I have noticed that he keeps talking about how he would not mind to be a one term president. I think he now realizes that even if he tries to stay in what he considers the middle he will probably not have a chance of re-election in 2012. That being said, 2012 is still a long ways out. If this economy turns around and jobs come back he may not have a problem.

With all of that being said, it sounds to me like he is ready to go full steam ahead on his most liberal agenda. He tried to appease the right, to an extent, and (we) they still did not want any part of his agenda. I think the reason he keeps talking about one term is because he is going to do everything he can to get parts of his liberal agenda passed and he realizes this will most likely result in failure in 2012. Politically, I think it is a smart move. If he can get some of his major initiatives passed he will be a hero to so many liberals and even more so when he loses the next presidential election.

Back to the topic at hand, Obama calling out the Supreme Court. What Congressman Joe Wilson did was wrong. I can easily admit that. You don't call out the President of the United States in that way, especially in a public setting. Thankfully, Wilson apologized. Now of course the Democrats have that idiot in Wisconsin spouting off but to my knowledge he has never said anything in a setting like Wilson did. Obama comments about the Supreme Court ruling were probably a little out of bounds, but this is American politics. To pretend like either side has not done much worse things a thousands time over is idiotic.

I think Obama calling out the Supreme Court will hurt him in the polls and politically. Had Justice Alito not responded, thus giving liberals the ammunition they needed to fire back, it would have hurt even more. I was not very offended because it was kind of an indirect comment and I try not to get my panties in a wad to often. I don't know how important the Supreme Court was to his administration. If they were slightly important, that spells trouble. I just wish one thing would have happened. When Obama called out the Supreme Court and Democrats went crazy, I would have loved to have seen the Supreme Court justices get up and start applauding with everybody else and giving each other high fives. That would have been hilarious.
