Obama/Clinton Ticket

Mary E. Coe
Senator Obama and Senator Clinton both made this year the most historic presidential election campaign ever. They both ran a great race. This was the most exciting and the most interesting primary election our country have ever seen. Both Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton received nearly eighteen million votes. Both candidates put up a good fight. When the primary was finally over, Senator Barack Obama won the Democratic Nominee for president of America.

I applaud both Sen. Obama and Sen. Clinton. I congratulate both senators on running a great race. And, I congratulate Sen. Obama on winning the nomination. Even those of us who are not Clinton's supporters have to admit that she is a fighter and that Senator Clinton opened the door for future women. She has paved the way for other women to stand up and say "I can do whatever I set out to do." There is hope that one day in the very near future; America will have a female Commander-in-chief. Just a few years ago; who would ever thought that in 2008 we would have a 71 years old male, an African American male, and a female as the top three candidates campaigning for president of the United States.

I could have looked at this race three ways. I'm a senior citizen, in my sixties, I'm female and I'm African American. However, I would not vote for Sen. McCain because he is a senior citizen; I would not vote for Sen. Clinton because she is a female senior citizen; and I would not vote for Sen. Obama because he is African American. I cast my vote for the candidate that I truly believe will stand up for the best interest of the American people. The candidate I vote for has to satisfy my mind that he/she has the best interest of the country at heart.

There is a lot of pressure on Sen. Obama to put Sen. Clinton on the ticket as vice president of the United States. Some say they will make a dream team. Some say Sen. Clinton will help Sen. Obama win over the millions of people that voted for her and she could help land him in the White House. I feel that Sen. Obama should take his time and choose the vice presidential candidate that is best for the American people. This candidate may very well be Sen. Clinton.

However, when choosing a candidate for vice president, Senator Obama should not have in mind what is best for him or what is best for Sen. Clinton; but what is best for the country. And I am confident that Sen. Obama will make the right decision. If he chooses Sen. Clinton, I am confident it will be because he truly believe she is the best candidate for the job; not because of the pressure he is getting. He's already proved that he doesn't give in to pressure. I'm sure Sen. Obama will choose a running mate that has the best interest of the American people at heart.

He have an excellent list of choices of vice presidential candidates to choose from; which includes Sam Nunn - U. S. Senator who can stand up to Senator McCain when it comes to National Security. There is Gov. Ted Strickland of Ohio; Senator Hillary Clinton of New York; Sen. Jim Webb of Virginia; Gov. Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas; and David Gergen.

Sen. Obama can't rely on Sen. Clinton to win over the people who voted for her. I believe this is something the senator needs to accomplish himself. Sen. Obama is the one who needs to convince the American people that he is the best candidate for president. I believe he is capable of doing just that. Sen. Clinton can be a big help to Obama whether or not she is on the ticket with him; however, Obama, himself, will have to convience the people that he is the right candidate for commander-in-chief.

Now, that Obama, has picked his running mate. I believe he has made a brilliant choose. And yes, he can win without Sen. Clinton; he has proven that over and over again. Obama doesn't need anyone to lean on. He will make a great president. I love what he stands for; and it comes from the heart. I'm glad that he didn't pick Hillary, even thought she would have been a good choice. However, if he did pick her as his running mate and won. Everyone would have said he won because of her. Obama can win because of Obama and what he stands for "changes" and his views on all the issues. He made an excellent choice for a running mate.

Well said, Alyce, I'm not a Clinton fan either. She did lie throughout the primary election campaign. Personally, I don't think Obama should put her on the ticket. Thanks for interesting and informative comment.

Senator Clinton lied throughout the primary election campaign. She told her voters they should vote McCain and Republicans if the DNC robbed her of the nomination. I did not consider her due to Iraq and her cold heartedness to Code Pink ladies several years back. Because she is of like mind with McCain about invading Iran, when we are in debt to pay for China; approves of cluster bombs in civilian areas; takes more lobbyist money than McCain (even though one of her selling points was to lie and say she plans to fight them; and lying about Senator Obama and the same; she even ran false ads prior to PA to discredit Senator Obama; she did likewise with her NH mailers, then had the audacity to accuse Senator Obama of her misdeed.) Because Senator Obama promised "change" yet seems to now condone Clintons lack of integrity, I most likely will vote Cynthia McKinney come November.

I personally don't think he should - he won the primary without her and enough people don't like mccain it could work in his favor.
