Obama's Boy Arlen Specter is Up Again for Re-election in the Fight of His Life
Arlen Specter is a Great Example to Children of a Person Who Takes Their Ball and Goes Home when Things Don't Go His Way
Originally Specter was a Democrat but became a Republican when he wanted to run for District Attorney in Philadelphia. He would on to be elected as a Republican and has enjoyed pretty decisive wins in most years. He tried to describe himself as a moderate, but was much more liberal on most issues. He basically just voted with republicans enough to keep the nomination from the party and get funding when he needed it. There are various reasons why he switched parties in April 2009 and they are all about power and conceit.
As mentioned he previously stated that he was a Republican and planned to run as one in the future. This was despite just barely winning a 2004 Republican Primary against the more conservative Pat Toomey by 1.7%. This was heavily aided by President George W. Bush and Senator Rick Santorum (R-PA) as well as many other Republicans closing Ranks behind him. He then stabbed them in the back this year. He claims that ideologically he feels more and more "out of touch" with the current Republican Party. That had been the case since he had been in congress. He has many issues that have differed. He is much less financially conservative than most Republicans. He criticized the impeachment of Bill Clinton and voted to acquit him when the former President was clearly guilty as anything. I personally do not think it should have come to impeachment, but he was guilty. He claims to be opposed to abortion yet is rated fairly high by radical abortionist groups as high as 100% in some years. I find that sickening. Abortion is basically playing God and deciding who lives and who dies. I realize that people will probably never see eye to eye on that, but since Specter is Jewish I figure he would understand that after Hitler tried to play God during the Holocaust no one should have that authority to decide who lives and who dies unless guilty of a crime or an act of war. He also wants the Defense of Marriage Act repealed yet he supported it in 1996. He is also big proponent of amnesty for illegal invaders and guest worker programs. Many Republicans have also been open to that like John McCain and Lindsey Graham, but they have even seen the light. He also supports affirmative action which is nothing more than reverse racism. Many of these differences have been there since the early 1980s, so his claim of ideology is bull. Basically he knew he would probably lose the primary against Pat Toomey. He did not believe "The Republican party of Pennsylvania should control the future of the Senate". That is pretty hypocritical because when he was winning they were fine. I am sure he is not returning any donations he got when he was a Republican. His party switch was clearly because he knows he could not win the primary. If he believed he could he would not have switched and we would not have the huge deficit healthcare bill that was passed over the objection of the American public. Specter basically said that he was taking his ball and going home since the game was not going his way.
Of course Barack Obama welcomed him and offered to campaign for him. I hope Barack Obama does this. He did this for the Governor races in New Jersey and Virginia and a special Senate race in Massachusetts for the seat held by the late Ted Kennedy. In all three races the Republican won and in the Massachusetts race many said they voted for Scott Brown to send a message to halt the healthcare bill. Barack Obama did not listen. That is another article though. In Chicago politics tradition other Democrats were told to back off from a primary challenge of Specter, but one brave Democrat in Joe Sestak. I agree with Joe Sestak that the party switch was "100% motivated by politics" and self serving interests. Once again Chicago politics came into play and Barack Obama offered him a good White House job if he abandoned the campaign. Sestak will not discuss this issue though. Polling has shown that Sestak trails Specter in the Primary and Specter has heavily negatively campaigned against Joe Sestak including attacking his military record. Democrats had attacked the Republican that Sestak defeated for his seat for doing just that, so the hypocrisy continues. Should Specter prevail in the Democratic primary this could hurt Sestak in the future and cost Democrats two positions since he opened the can of worms on the military record. Once again Specter serves his self interests.
There were national implications of this switch by Arlen "Fair weather" Specter. First of all once the Minnesota election was decided and Al Franken was declared the winner by a 300 vote margin the Democrats held a 60 vote filibuster proof majority. This meant that Barack Obama pretty much had a free pass for all his liberal socialist ideas. This is what allowed healthcare to be forced on the unwilling American people. Every democrat voted for cloture on the bill and can thus be held accountable. The election of Scott Brown in Massachusetts put the breaks on it temporarily, but Obama found a plan to dance around the will of the American people and get it anyway. Then three democrats voted against the final measure but voted on every procedural bill to allow it to become law. The American public are not buying the "I voted against it" after the fact.
Well Specter apparently might not have made the best decision for himself after all. Recent polls show him trailing Toomey by double digits. There is strong anti-incumbent sentiment in the country and lost of anger over the healthcare bill and the way it was passed. IT looks like he will probably lose his seat. If he does not he will be in the fight of his life. I personally think Toomey will win. Many people stayed home that would have voted for John McCain when Barack Obama won because they did not like either. After seeing what Barack Obama has managed to do in a year people will be out in drove to take his free pass from Congress away. It also does not help that there is a lot of buyer's remorse when it comes to Barack Obama. He is not the "Messiah" many thought and probably is hurting many Democrats especially down south. While Specter is in Pennsylvania the state does tend to be competitive.
While I was reviewing information for this I found out a couple things about Arlen Specter that I was not aware of I think really needs to be out there. First of all it was Specter as a member of the Warren Commission on the assassination of John F. Kennedy that he came up with the "single bullet theory". Many people believe this is idiotic as there had to have been more than one shooter and more people involved than just Lee Harvey Oswald.
Another thing I was not aware of was that when he was an attorney he put a murderer back on the streets in 1979. One of America's most wanted (profiled on the show). A man named Ira Einhorn. He was basically a greasy hippie disgrace to the United States. He killed his former girlfriend Holly Maddux when after she returned to retrieve her belongings at his urging. Police found her dead body in a trunk. Originally his bail was $100,000 dollars, but Arlen Specter argued that was "excessive". That is pretty pathetic considering it was a slam dunk murder case against Einhorn. The judge was concerned about Einhorn being a flight risk but Specter assured him that was not the case. The bail was reduced to $40,000. After posting bond Einhorn fled to Europe until being returned to the United States after a contentious extradition battle with France in beginning in 1997. It was finally resolved in 2001. He previously was convicted in absentia in 1993 and that conviction was reaffirmed in 2002. No wonder I he such a flaming liberal on abortion. He has no respect for life.
Some disgraceful votes that show just how out of touch he is
He is soft on crime and voted in 1999 against increasing penalties for drug offense.
He also voted no on mandatory prison terms for crimes involving firearms.
He voted against allowing voluntary school in prayer.
In 2005 he voted against restricting business with entities linked to terrorism (real patriotic)
He voted against barring immigrants from receiving welfare. We work and people can come here in a boat or sneak across the border and free load off the taxpayer.
He also voted to keep giving "sanctuary cities" that violate US law and protect illegal immigrant invaders from deportation federal funding.
If you look at footage of his town halls on healthcare you will also see he has no respect for his constituents when they disagree with him.
Is this the man you want representing you in congress? A vote for Arlen Specter (or any Democrat at the national and most state levels) is a vote for Barack Obama to do as he pleases without accountability to the American people. Don't believe me just look at healthcare and how they forced it upon us despite the American public saying "we don't want this" and voting a republican into Ted Kennedy's old seat to prove how much we did not want it. You either stand with Barack Obama or America. Specter made his choice. Now it is time for Pennsylvania, were our constitution was signed, to make theirs.
As an update when Arlen Specter said "My change in party will allow me to be reelected" he was wrong. He was soundly defeated by liberal Joe Sestak who has trailed Pat Toomey in almost every poll. Arlen Specter is politics at its worse. By switching parties That ( adjective of your choice) Obama got his 60 votes for Obamacare against the will of the american people. He might have had a shot if he stayed a republican and defeated Obamacare by a single vote. He would have been a hero.

God Bless You and God Bless America.
