Obama's Decision to Postpone Digital Transition

Are You in Agreement?

I am in total agreement with the plans postponing the digital transition made recently by President-elect Barack Obama. I may not be politically educated on the reasons behind Obama's postponing of the digital transition or the benefits that this transition is said to bring to America, but I am a citizen of the great United States of America. And I do have a say so, right?

Well, up until recently, I felt that my voice didn't matter. I felt that my opinion weighed no more than a grain of salt to our law-makers, or those in government positions. And hence, my feelings that America wasn't as 'free' as "we" claim it to be. But with Obama making decisions like this, makes me feel that somebody, somewhere has heard my voice. Heard my opinion, and is showing me that my opinion counts.

I was totally elated when I heard a newscaster state that Obama was working to postpone the transition to Digital Television. I agree on the fact that many Americans are just 'not ready' for this transition. Of course in our household, as like many others, we are cable connected and have no need to worry about the transition. But there are others who not only have the opportunity to purchase cable or satellite, they are also in the red for being able to purchase a converter, or even a digital television for that matter. Wake up - America is broke! Our economy may still have some hope, but let's face it, we are in a tight financial bind - together.

But my main argument against the digital transition was the idea of some sort of conspiracy on the government's behalf. Peg me as crazy, paranoid or whatever, but I can see it now: America being ruled by our electronics. Maybe I watch too much television as it is, but I somehow feel that this new digital transition is another way for "Big Brother' to have reign over us so-called 'free' Americans. Just imagine this: When something goes wrong with the main computers, we all will be left in the dark, like times before when electricity went out all over certain areas. People were without some very 'necessary ' amenities.

I'm all for progress, so don't get me wrong, I just feel that some progress isn't worth the sacrifice of humankind. Is it a certainty that this transition to digital will actually be beneficial for America?
