Obama's False Hope - Health Care Reform

Jacob Horn
Conservative and right-wing media are going crazy right now. During his campaign President Obama stated that discussions on health care reform would not take place behind closed doors but rather they would be broadcast on C-SPAN. The glorified number is currently 8. This is the number of times that Obama stated that health care reform debate would take place on C-SPAN. As we stand right now, the health care reform debate is currently not being broadcast on C-SPAN. Instead, it is taking place behind closed doors in smoke filled rooms (believe me when I say I am so sick of hearing the phrase 'smoke filled rooms' but I just could not help myself). The fact that Obama is not following through on a campaign pledge is nothing new. Democrats and Republicans alike have become professionals when it comes to not following through regarding campaign promises. Politicians promise everybody the world when they are campaigning. The fact of the matter is they control very little of what they promise during these campaigns. The reason it hurts so bad with Obama is because he had so many of us believing that he was the real deal. He was going to go to Washington D.C. and truly turn it upside down. He spoke a message none of us had heard before and he spoke it in a way none of us had encountered. What Obama is doing, regarding the privacy of the health care reform debate and going back on campaign pledges is nothing new for either party, it just hurts a little worse because so many of us wanted to believe him.
