Obama's Main Message to the Muslims from His Speech in Cairo

Can He Bring Peace to the Middle East? I Don't See Who Else Can

President Barack Obama delivered yet again with his latest speech, aimed at the Muslim community, in Cairo yesterday. Not only were his words truthful, honest, and eye-opening, they were completely moving, and spoken with true respect and gratitude. This is a man who hopefully holds the clout to change the world in the most meaningful way we have seen for decades.

Mr. Obama has received much criticism from news sources, as well as Muslims, all throughout the world over choosing the police-state of Egypt to carry out his speech, after numerous reports of atrocities committed by President Hosni Mubarack's regime on Muslims have surfaced. But, where could he possibly have a chance of delivering a speech to a mass audience of mainly Arabs and NOT upsetting anyone? There is no right answer, no existing middle ground.

The amount of bridges burned, the heavy veil of hatred for America from the Muslim community, which has grown immeasurably throughout years of bad decisions from the Bush presidency (and years before that), is something that cannot be expected to be lifted and change over-night, but very hopefully, if ever, this is the time. At the opening of his speech, he states "We meet at a time of tension between the United States and Muslims around the world - tension rooted in historical forces that go beyond any current policy debate." This is perhaps the key sentence. To have his intentions understood, Muslims first have to believe and accept the fact that he and the past governments (which have turned their backs on their horrendous plight) are nothing alike, that his aims and goals are for the betterment of humanity, and that to bring about progress, there needs to be trust once again.

He went on, touching a few of the sensitive subjects between Muslims and the United States, while vehemently stating how much closer we would be to unraveling the spool of hate, which seems to be endless, just by engaging in what he called "a new beginning". From the religious to the violent, President Obama made clear the fact that, if differences are the only thing being held up under the microscope, the change he strives for will never occur. The issues that need to be brought to light are those of common ground, sympathy, and respect.

Mr. Barack went so far as to quote the Koran, by saying "Be conscious of God and speak always the truth." He spoke about how to develop the much needed trust he seeks, there has to be honesty, truth, and genuine efforts to communicate with each other as nations, individuals... and went on to state this is as he shall do, and that he trusts in humanity's ability to look beyond its past differences and focus on their common objective, peace.

News critics and negative opinions abound, saying things such as how he set some words aside for scorning Iran, yet didn't once mention the current possession of Israel's nuclear weapons and their refusal to give them up, and was also called a hypocrite by others for sending more troops into Afghanistan, but lets face it. The man is stuck between a rock and a hard place, and if there's anyone in America up for the task of bringing about positive adjustments to the system, it's him. Political renovations are in the works, now we just need to stop pestering the architect, and go with it. There's a reason everyone likes him. He's so... HUMAN. We should all be so lucky.

His words were enlightening, intelligent, and spoken from a place that can only be called sincerity at its finest; precisely what many people need to hear. And when I say "hear", I mean LISTEN, take in the words, analyze them. Stop thinking "oh, he has all these pros writing his speeches, he doesn't mean that..." the message, no matter who is trying to convey it, could indeed be what saves us all.
