Obama's Vice Presidential Pick

Next week is going to be a very interesting week in politics. If my numbers are correct, we will see both presidential candidates pick their respective vice presidential candidates.

The Olympics start next Friday, and they end the day before the Democratic Convention Starts. After that, we have a three day period (a weekend) where Mccain could announce his VP candidate before the RNC starts.

No one wants to announce the VP during the Olympics as it won't get as much coverage, and Obama has no time to announce after the olympics.

Factor in Obama's 5 million olympic ad buy and the only time after the DNC to announce being a weekend and it comes down to one period of time.

Next Sunday-Thursday. No one will announce Friday because thats the beginning of the Olympics. Today is out because neither candidates are doing anything spectacular.

As I said, next week is the week. I have a few questions about the VP slot
1: Do Mccain and Obama have different VP picks in mind to counteract the other candidates potential VP picks?
Ex: Say Mccain is convinced that Obama is going to choose Bill Richardson as a way to take more of the Hispanic vote. Would he have someone like Colin Powell as his VP to take some of the black support? Likewise, would a Mccain Romney pick be enough to get Obama to choose Harry Reid?
2: Who will announce first?

Democrats:
Obama could go with a military man such as Jim Webb, Colin Powell, Wesley Clark or one of the old Iraq generals to try and steal the military vote.

He could also go with Richard Clarke, Joe Biden, or anyone on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to pump up the Foreign Policy credentials.

He could also go with Clinton, Sebellius, Napolitano, or Mckaskill to get the angry women voters who wanted Clinton to support him.

He could go with a Western Strategy and pick Bill Ritter or Brian Schweitzer, or he could try a Southern Strategy and pick a Democrat from a Red State like Tim Kaine, Sebellius, or Evan Bayh or he could choose someone who could bring in a lot of Electoral Votes like Bob Casey/Ed Rendell (PA), Ted Strickland (Oh), or someone from TX,FL.

He could pick a Republican to appear unifying like Dick Lugar, Chuck Hagel, or Mike Bloomberg.

Honestly though? I think that his leaked short list of Southern leaders is a farce leaked out intended to waste the media's time speculating on names he doesn't want. I feel as though Obama is going to pick a Conservative Democrat, or a Liberal Republican to be his running mate to ensure a continual state of Unity and Hope.

He won't choose a Hispanic, or a woman, or an African American person. That is too much for people in the South to handle. He'll choose a Lincoln Chafee, or a Richard Clarke, or an economic powerhouse like Paul Volcker or Richard Rubin to show he can fix the economy. If he does stick to the Southern Strategy, I can almost guarantee he will choose Tim Kaine because Virginia is up for grabs and he would deliver that state.
