There's a Lot More to Do Than Just Ski
Ober Gatlinburg provides a restaurant, mall to shop at, place to get a beautiful view of the Smoky Mountains, miniature golf, water rides, an educational environment to view and learn about animals in the area, and much more in one area in Tennessee.
Visitors to Ober Gatlinburg may just come to use America's new aerial tramway--even if they do not plan on skiing. The ride takes visitors to the ski resort and amusement park. It has two 120 passenger balanced cars for $10 for each adult, $8.50 for children 7-11, and free for children 6 and younger. Visitors can see the scenic view of the mountains year round.
Once you ride the tramway to the top you can ski down or use the amusement park. In the Amaze'n Maze visitors can compete against each other or the clock to find their way out for $7 a person. In the carousel, for $3.50 each children or adults can ride all day. There is indoor ice skating. For $9 a person visitors can skate in the 140 foot by 75 foot indoor ice rink. For 3.50 a person for two runs you can test your might against a bungee cord in the Bungee Fun. For $3.50 each people of all ages can twist, jump, or flip on an inflated Velcro wall. The alpine slide gives participants the chance to dip through ski trails and woods as they descend down the mountain through one of two 1800 foot tracks. You can accelerate or decelerate. At times there will be hair pin turns. At times the going will be straight. The price is $7 a person. You won't forget the blue cyclone rapids when you plunge from 60 feet high into a dark hole pushing white water waves. The cost is $3.50 per person. There are other water rides that are also $3.50 per person.
The wildlife encounter gives you the chance to see black bears, snakes, flying squirrels, skunks, raccoons, and turtles. In the future bobcats and other animals will be added. The cost is $6 per person for those 12 and older, $4 for those 7-11, and there is no charge for those 6 and younger.
The miniature golf course is $3.50 per person.
The Kiddie Land, which includes swinging bridges, ladders, chutes, and tunnels, is $7 per person.
The ski resort offers eight trails for snowboarding and skiing. A variety of rental equipment in all sizes is available. Snowtubing is available. The ski resort also offers lessons. Season passes are available, although the official website of the ski resort did not list a price.
The downtown tramway mall in Gatlinburg offers visitors plenty of shopping opportunities. You can buy stuffed animals, Noah's Ark, with animals, plaques, souvenir cups, souvenir shirts, a variety of foods and snacks, and other items from the various stores and snack bars. In the ski lodge shopping mall, you can buy fudge, sportswear, and other items as you shop at the various stores.
In Ober Gatlinburg's Restaurant you can enjoy the food, the views of the ski slopes and mountains, and the large wood burning fireplace.
Comments of people who rode the tramway were generally positive. Some mentioned seeing several bears. Some mentioned getting great pictures.
